Zurich airport security question

Just to be on the safe side, can anyone tell me if there is any issue with bringing an FM / AM radio in handluggage through security at Zurich airport? Should the batteries be removed or does that make any difference?

Can't see why it should be treated differently from any other electronics. Batteries in in any case to prove it works.

I would maybe remove it from your hand luggage as you would for a laptop or tablet. Better to be totally open about , I suppose.

Any help? Security Zürich Airport

Thanks a lot for all the quick replies. Looks like there will be no problem with the radio.

If you get a young security guard, you might need to explain that it's a bit like a Spotify and Podcast player that live streams content over wireless.

Should not be a problem. If asked, just tell them it's a radio receiver.

After immigration, how you deal with Billag is an entirely different matter though.

Be careful - should it be tuned to German hit songs it will be confiscated immediately.

Do not remove the batteries. AFAIK there are restrictions on taking lose batteries.

I suppose this should be treated just like a Mobile. You need to switch it off before boarding the flight, ideally before checkin. Use it only after checkout is completed.

No longer the case for mobiles for most airlines. Just need it in flight mode.

A radio as a receiving device only is always in flight mode!

Just be sure that if you use it-- you have a headset or earphone (removed during takeoff and landing of course) !

Using an FM / AM radio during a flight could be interesting, who knows what it might pick up!

Had to login just so I could say thanks for this. Remionds me of someone's daughter asking where (in the house) the things were that you played on the record player - "you know, those big CD things". A bright girl, but it never occurred to her that a record player would play "records"

Rechargeable batteries are sometimes banned on aircraft. Mainly because they can catch fire without warning and it is impossible to stop the fire until they burn out, see transport restrictions on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery

Use cheap Alkaline batteries on aircraft, or carry only discharged batteries.

That's like the description of the manual typewriter in the second-hand store- Oh look! A real time printer!

Just to let you know, I did bring the radio with me and there were no problems!

Leave it outside during the security checks! They'll probably check it anyway when it's scanned.
