I don't pay anywhere near that amount per month. If I was, my excess would be so low that I would have no reason to hesitate because of the price of the visit t the doctor.

. insurance

. fuel

. maintenance

. parking (at home and when you are out)

. leasing

. registration

Yep cars are just a liability, skip that. What about biking?

and with the fitness... you should check on how much your health insurance can give you back.

We also got an annual fee from the Gemeinde. And what about language lessons (assuming you need them)

No cars on my side. Can't stand them. Biking, definitly, and to my understanding there is like a small tax for it.

I will probably need swiss german lessons, but it would be more for day to day life. I managed to learn finnish just living in helsinki for 4 month (not fluently but good enough). I hope to grasp the same amount in zurich if I stay a year or more

You must spend your life behind the PC on this forum a lot to loose sense of reality

I did search, and you can't find anything you need, unless you really know what you need. The search of the BB forums is NOT google powered in case you missed it

I think it is more productive to be helpful than judgmental. I am going to pay taxes

Anyway, now I have finished a budget, and I would like to upload it for others to use it.

Is there a way of doing so on the website?

not sure why people are getting up in arms over this one. salary is only 140k which is just a tad above the commonly acknowledged minimum viable salary of 120k. particularly since the SNB has now pegged the CHF to the EUR at a low rate meaning you'd need a few more CHFs to spend overseas.

I appreciate your comment, it is a pragmatic comment.

But I am not expecting to be working by myself. I am doing a budget for two, and expecting my wife to start working also.

knowing that she has the same levels of qualifications and that (unfortunately) women earn around 20% less in my field in switzerland, so I would expect her to get at minimum a salary of 8500 to 9500...

Which than culminates to an effective 19K to 20k.

Plus, we will not be doing all the travels, partying etc that we used to do. So that should allow us to save money over a period of 5 to 6 years.

The money your wife earns will be taxed very highly, you won't be saving as much as you think!

We should be saving more than by myself

(i am expecting of my salary to have around 8000 net, having taxes, and high health insurance, so I would go also for 5000 Net for my wife)

So based on the setup budget thanks to the people on the forum, we should put around 6K aside monthly.

But as you said, it will not be that much.

Over the years, I will increase my salary.

I am mostly putting my hope on the quality of life in Zurich.

So she's a trailing spouse and expected to make CHF 120K or thereabouts. Nice. Have you thought that through? Is she an EU national, and if not, can she get a work permit? I know too many non-EU people here who were lured here with an "L"-permit, only to discover that that doesn't permit the spouse to work.

BTW, wot fatmanfilms said. As soon as she starts working, not only will she be taxed heavily (well by Swiss standards), but your tax rate will go up as well.

By way of explanation: the forum has been around quite a long time. Many people on here have seen very similar questions asked and answered many, many times. As has been pointed out, there are countless threads on cost of living, with lots of very detailed, useful information. Starting new ones with slight differences in costs and saying 'but I'm different so had to ask again' is therefore often met with frustration.

Most of the information on EF is, unfortunately, spread out! This was why I tried to put links to the most helpful Threads in each section into the stickies at the top.

In this one, named appropriately enough - Please check this Thread. Your question may already have been covered which is to be found at the top of the Forum Support Section, there are a lot of helpful bits of information, but, again, it's a bit like looking for things in my cellar really... I'm sure it's there somewhere. One day when it's raining I could clear the cellar out - and it's raining but I'm messing around on EF instead.

This post concerning uploading pictures and such , also 'in there somewhere', might help!

If you do upload your EXCEL table, I suggest you put it in a post added to one of the threads about the cost of living with a link in the sticky - otherwise no-one will find your table either.

These are all rude comments...no one is forced to answer questions.

I can appreciate the fact that some questions were asked a million times, but that is no reason to be rude.

I wouldn't say that atwzurich's post was rude. It is just an explanation of why folk react the way they do.

If you stick around for a year or so and answer the same question in detail thirty or forty times, one rainy morning it might get to you too.

Not that this excuses rudeness though, but some of my replies have been a bit terse on occasion so I'm certainly not throwing stones.
