Zurich - nice walking areas

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone knows any nice walking areas within Zurich?

I like walking with my dog, especially in nature (forest, meadow and so on) and I am searching for nice places to walk.

I am quite lost here as I am new in Zurich, so any tips will be great!

Wipkingenberg is very good.

Nice views and many paths.

The Allmend Brunau is fantastic for walking dogs. Large open spaces, pooch can run free, river runs through it (how romantic ). Take Tram 13 or 5 to "Saalsporthalle", and it's just on your left, opposite Sihl City. If you walk long and far enough, you'll even reach the top of the Uetliberg.

Thank you for your tips. We will try some of them tomorrow. We were on Uetliberg already previous weekend and it was great there, but I do not know any others nice places for walking dog, so again, thank you for your tips.

Of course any others ideas will be great too.

One nice walk you can do is walk from Schlieren to Triemli (I can't remember but I think it takes about 1-2 hours)

Take the S-Bahn to Schlieren then from the station head for Schlieren center and continue straight (along the Uitikonerstrasse) until you reach a hill then turn left and continue along the Zürich side of the hill until you reach Triemli.

What is nice is that the surroundings change quite a lot and you always have a nice view of Zürich. I think it is also ideal for pets.

BTW is this thread in the right place? I mean people can also do these walks without a pet?

Get the no. 6 tram to the Zoo and walk past the Zoo, the restaurant and the farm you will find a path way taking you into the Forest. The path way will take you around and back towards the No. 6 tram or alternatively you can walk down to the seilbahn Rigiblick which will take you down to the No. 9 and 10 tram back to town. Duration: 1 hour or longer depending what pathway you take once in the forest - all sign posted.

I really like the Elefantenbach - a creek with a really cool elephant statue/fountain. It's in a forest with many trails that are fun to explore. It's near Witikonerstrasse and I think the best way to reach it is on the 34 bus stopping at Schlyfi. Enjoy your walks!

You can also enter the Elefantenbach-walk from the Forchstrasse side - Tram 11, stop "Hirslanden". It's lovely in summer - shady, cool, lots of water for pooch and hot feet

Hi! Also fyi... there's a cafe there in Allmend, just by the river where you can have a coffee or a bite, while the dogs play. I do avoid going there on Weekends as I find it too crowded, but if you don't mind that then it's great anytime.

best one, like it. 10min tram ride and its like youre plane crashed in amazonas: quiet, lovely nature n fresh air.

funny you should mention planes - when we lived there we always went walking in the forest. A year later the planes started to come over Gockhausen in the morning so you could, and can, clearly see them but funnily enough they stop coming over Gockhausen later in the morning and you do not see them over there in the afternoon. However, it does not spoil the walk at all, it's just lovely there.

Another great walk especially on the weekend. Get the train S8 to Au and walk around the halb Insel Au(half Island) it's lovely there. At the end of the path walk up the many steps to the Restaurant (nice fish dishes) and after you can walk back to the train stop or, if you really want to stretch the legs, walk to Horgen along the lake. Love it, did that walk so many times.

..and BTW those of you who have recently moved here and are planning on doing lots of Forest walks don't forget to get your Tic vaccination in the spring.

Dont know how close you are to Kloten ( airport side ) we have a labrador who loves to play with other Dogs , but would be happy to walk with you and yours...

I have another one to add to the list which is my fav so far:

Take a bus up to ETH Honggerberg and there is a huge field behind the buildings. Takes about 30 mins max to do the entire field (including time for sniffing around and chasing butterflies) or you can walk into the forest which will be much longer.

Gorgeous views of the alps on a sunny day and a great place to practice the recall command.

Ok, now I am already able to give some advises regarding walking areas

We like this one: http://www.vitaparcours.ch/d/html/_standort.html?ID=489

There is a nice forest with hundreds of paths inside. The place is also ideal for running (you can choose between one of three different lengths, I think they are 3km, 5km and 9km, but I am not totally sure about these distances).

We were walking for 2 hours last time and it was really nice. And it is not crowded during the week and over the weekend it is ok too (if I compare it with Uetliberg for example).

And it is a nice place to practise canicross. Btw: anyone here doing canicross?

Oh, and another one - around Katzensee. It is a nice walk and it takes about 45 min. Marked path.
