Hi, I have some questions.
You have to file tax returns in Zurich if “ income>120k, or wealth >160k”.
Does the “wealth” mean “worldwide wealth”? I don’t have properties in Switzerland, but have some in EU.
(I read many posts in this forum and it seems that people only care about the income threshold. It’s weird because wealth CHF160k shall be much easier than income CHF120k)
Also, how to apply for extension? Which form to fill out and where to mail?
Thanks.
In Switzerland both income and wealth are always considered worldwide
You can send your request here:
Steueramt der Stadt Zürich
Fristen
Postfach
8010 Zürich
Thanks. Any official website?
So, do I only need to write my name and ID info in the extension request? Any other required info?
Update:I found this site stadt-zuerich thanks
https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/fd/de/i…20m%C3%B6glich .
You write your name and AHV number and ask to extend until Sept 30. Must be sent today as official deadline for filing is tomorrow.
Thank you. So only name and AHV number and “ask for...” without any specific form, and mail to the address above?
Check if it can be done online. A lot of cities have now the possibility to ask for on extension on their website.
In ZH, and a few other cantons, not all!
Here it's 30 April. The tax forms come with an extension letter to be filled, signed, and mailed.
Tom
Yes Tom, it’s not for Zug, where the deadline is April 30.
I have already mailed the requst today.
Thank you all.
You can do online if you receive the tax declaration documents.
I always extend online. They should have sent you details how to do it with the request to do a tax return.
If this is your first ZH return you should absolutely register on their online platform and do it online. I would have thought it also explains how to do that in the letter you received.
You can normally also extend the extension to end of November.
I am not sure, but I don’t think the foreign real estate counts for this 160k threshold. The website says “taxable assets” and foreign real estate is not taxed in Switzerland, just used to determine the worldwide tax rate
