Zurich Vs Basel for job

Hi members,

We are Non -EU ,B permit holder .I have shifted recently to Basel location . I travel daily to Zurich ,I have very good job in Zurich as I am in Finanace domain and my husband has very good job in Basel as He is in pharma domain .. Due to my domain constraint I am not able to find job in Basel and plus I dont have any german skills .. also my tax has also increased after shifting to basel .. I am bit confused .. We are considering to make a shift to Zurich .. My husband has stayed in basel for 1 year and recently got his permit renewed . .. Does canton shifting to Zurich in such short duration is advisable ??? Also which city will be best for career growth considering our case .. I know this is an open ended question but answers can clear some confusion ..please advise ..

Get pregnant then decide what is best for future intentions.

Hi. Here are a couple of options you can look at.

- Move to Zurich and benefit for the lower (relatively) tax rate. Your hubby can rent a small appt in Basel (funded from the tax savings). Some folks who live in Zurich but commute to Basel do this.

- You can shift cantons. Not an issue.

- If you are in PH, Basel is better. If you prefer to be in Finance, Zurich is better. My sense is that Zurich is better from an employment options perspective.

- That said, Zurich and Basel are 1.5 hrs distance by car. So not a big issue per se.

What is most important is where you enjoy living.

p.s. Loads of finance roles in Basel as well. Most PH companies need big teams in finance.

i comute between basel and zurich every day. It's not hard.

You can live midway between basel and zurich (such as Frick), and it will be equidistant for both of you.

Both cities are excellent. Depending on the domain, it will be your choice.

We have the same situation. I work in Basel in the pharma industry and my wife works in Zurich in the services industry.

We are living in the middle, so we both commute exactly the same time (around 1 hour from door to door). This has been the best solution for us during the last years.

However, we are now moving to Zurich because of professional reasons.

Let us know If we can advise more.

Cheers

By the way. We are leaving our apartment. If you are interested, we could transfer it.

In this way, you would commute less (a 25 mins train) for both of you.

@chrislunabaca . .. thank you .. but we have not decided to change apartment. thanks again.
