13. AHV. Pension

I don’t even think it would be possible in a small commune to be honest based on my son’s account of being a vote counter for the vote.

We put ours in the commune post box at some point up to the day of voting but have only once left it until as late as the Sunday morning.

At our Gemeinde you can use the letterbox until 10-00 on Sunday, otherwise you still have one hour left before 11-00 to put it in the voting urn.

I have also brought my own in person Sunday morning, and my wife’s in the envelope.

My wife is a vote counter. In our small commune they have not seen anyone come to vote in person on the day for decades.

Almost 60% yes country-wide.

How many years before they implement it, my guess is at least three.

In 1978 we voted against summer time hour change but it was ignored

From 2026. And prepare for VAT increase of 1%. Sad.

Switzerland could also think about saving - like not buy so many FA18s, stop digging the roads up, stop paying retired Bundesrat CHF200,000/year pensions…

Only 9 cantons voted No for the 13th AHV. It seems the majority of voters and majority of people will be achieved.

From a certain perspective this vote is liberating. The 13th AHV payment passed, poverty eradicated, no need to think about the issue ever again.

Well, I’m hoping that parliament takes due note of the slap in the face by the electorate (at least those that actually voted).

I am hoping the electorate won’t spend the next unfinanced billions in the June vote on healthcare subsidies.

Sure, Switzerland could just become another of those European countries…

Sad day… Switzerland was the country that voted against raising minimum holidays and now this, without any thoughts on how to finance it.

We were the country were collective we’ll bring was preferred and feels like this vote shows a very different grubby behaviour.

Everyone thinks the others will finance it and don’t realize we all will… I feel like Switzerland is changing and not for the better

There is no way around the ratio of number of workers to retired people.

The irony here is that the 13th AHV will go straight to landlords and suppliers of the health system. It’s a dream to think this money goes to retirees in need.

Agreed! In Switzerland we have a competitive advantage of cost of employment Vs output to employees (see image here - it’s from Germany where netto income is considered post tax). With this nonsense we will start seeing this ratio become smaller will just make us less competitive AND our salaries less good.

But I get it, everyone wants the money now…

My parents who are pensioners already voted yes to 13th and no to 66 “because we did not want to make it harder for you” - but they are anyway and so many people think like this.

Makes me really angry and worried…

Have said that from the very beginning if you remember the other thread. Also, about the VAT increase…oh and Axa too is spot on about the landlords and health insurance “grabbers” and actually little remaining for the retirees in need. But we’ll see, eh.

A 13th-month payment is an increase in cost of around 8% which is not a big enough deal to make a huge difference to the government budget and less than the extra most people saw in their health care payments this year.

The Government spends around CHF 45 billion annually on pensions so the increase would be around CHF 4 billion on a total government budget of around CHF 250 billion ca. 1.5%.

And it’s likely that much of the money will be spent locally on goods and services. Unlike the f6.5 Billion being spent on F35 fighters.

Which the electorate approved.

And the “Stop F-35” alliance is trying to reverse that approval.

I don’t see any point in buying fighter jets that can cross the widest part of Switzerland in less than ten minutes.

Four Patriot systems and a load of drones would make more sense.
