Yeah I would like Lollipop on my S3 too, but I don't see that happening before the next ice age.
Guess if I want it I should either find myself a Lollipop-lookalike mod, or until someone publishes a stable mod based on Lollipop (there is one in the works, but it is far from perfect).
Came up as an update to my Nexus 10 this morning - the reboot took a while. Interface seems nice and slick, not sure if I like all of the changes - for instance notifications and settings are in the same place now and a bit crowded, but it may just need some time getting used to. I dislike that I need an extra tap to bring up the pin pad to unlock the thing - first world problems...
Too early to tell of battery use - and oh, yes, I too wish Samsung would update their firmware as easy as Google does it...
Notifications and settings were always in the same place, though... (or at least for a long time, unless you used Cyanogenmod where it is separated into the same pull down but different screens you needed to flick / tap-toggle between).
"An extra tap to bring up pinpad"... but does this mean you can have shortcuts and unlock with PIN protection? This is what really annoyed me during one of the updates. If you want swipe shortcuts on the lock screen, you can only use swipe protection (i.e. no protection). If you use PIN or password protection, no dice.
Not on the Nexus 10 - there used to be a pull-down on the left for notifications and a pull-down on the right for settings/wifi/etc. Not a big issue by any measure, just a change I noticed (which also means I'll have to explain to a whole bunch of people where they can find the damn WiFi button now... truly one of the most serious first world problems...)
Didn't get much time to look at this - there seems to be swipeable notifications on the lock screen now while the PIN protection is still on. One just needs to swipe an unlock icon to bring up the PIN keyboard
AndroidCentral covers all the latest news regarding 5.0+ Android builds, and from what they are writing, Google is a few steps back from providing everyone with a stable new version of their OS. Memory leaks here and there, lots of software is not optimized for material design yet .....
My Galaxy S4 finally upgraded to 5.0.1 this week. Looks a bit nicer, but not noticed any dramatic improvement in battery life or peformance and it has an annoying habit of spontaneously shutting down at <10% battery life and gets stuck into a shut down/restart loop.
It would occaionally shut down spontaneoulsy prior to the upgrade, but at least I could restart it.
