My parents are supposed to be on this flight tonight. With the snowfall, ATC have limited traffic and so the web page linked below shows that the flight has an estimated delay of over 2 hours pushing the take off time close to midnight.
However, I recall, that Basel airport has a curfew meaning there should be no flight after around 10pm. Does this mean that this flight will have to be cancelled or are there some exceptions for delays?

Departure 21:40 Sun 5th Jan

itâs easyJet giving it. Wouldnât trust them either.
It will be the airport that can confirm whether they will let the airplane start at this hour or not.
Latest time Iâve boarded in Basel was just around midnight and this was last summer. They should be fine, unless thereâs another delay and it get past midnight at which point they send you home, re-schedule the flight for whatever time next day, but make you arrive at the airport really early.
2023 report; Special authorisations were issued for a total of 310 flights (2022: 241 flights) during the night-time curfew period (11.30 p.m. to 6 a.m. ). Such night flights are only authorised when there are justifiable grounds
That is practically one after-curfew flight every day
The big problem with stopping flights from taking off is it completely screws with the next dayâs operation with both planes and crew being at the wrong airport/country.
Tomorrowâs a busy Monday so all involved will endeavour to get planes to where they should be.
Usually I check the preceding flight (MAN - BSL) and if thatâs delayed or cancelled then usually the opposite leg is too. The complication with BSL is that itâs also a hub so easyJet could mobilise a standby A320
Well, not surprising given the weather in the UK atm. More surprised that they didnât cancel it earlier.
âUntil mid-morning on Sunday, no planes could leave Manchester Airport with all incoming flights being diverted elsewhere. Runways at five other airports were also temporarily closed.â
"Manchester Airport warned that âsome departures and arrivals may still be subject to delaysâ after it was forced to close its runways, and urged passengers to check with their airline for updates on their flight.
Nearly 30 flights in and out of the airport have been cancelled and more than 250 delayed as of 17:15 GMT, according to tracking website FlightAware.
More than a dozen Manchester-bound planes had to land at London Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Dublin, Glasgow and Paris."
" * An amber warning for snow covering most central and northern England, including the Midlands and the north-west cities of Liverpool and Manchester, until midnight on Sunday"
Yes, extremely frustrating that they cancelled at the last minute. My parents are in the âget to the airport super earlyâ camp and I had to talk them down from leaving at 19.30 even though it was already delayed until midnight!
I couldnât delay them any more so unfortunately, we got the message when we were already on the way.
