Personally I don't think you can go wrong with Sennheiser. I use the first generation of these . I think they cost around 80 chufs when I bought them. They have a nice balanced sound, and the bass is not at the expense of the rest of the sound, which is a problem I find with a lot of headphones. Also being a closed back design you won't annoy your fellow passengers.
If you want ''quality highs, lows, mids, bass'' then you need to get headphones and not earplugs.

Happy listening

oh yeah here they are
Amazing. Have owned 2 pairs.
Yes those ones are at the quality end of the earplug market, with their mini-sub-woofers they can get quite low. But really does that justify paying 400-500 quid?? A £150/£200 pair of Sennheiser HD 25's or a £100/£150 pair of KRK's will do.
Terrible frequency range. A £30 pair of Sony headphones do a better job.
cheers

I also tried it and it actually sound gggooooodd.
I run two pairs. both closed.
I have a pair of earbuds, shure se115 which are the budget version in there range and they are twice as expensive as sennheiser cx300 II which I would recommend in the lower price bracket for earbuds (45-65chf).
I just looked them up and they are currently discontinued although the mobile version of them (inline mic, volume) are still availble. se115 are still listed on
http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?se...+se115&sRes=OK
they do take a bit of geting used to as pointed out they DID (dunno now) come with foam earbuds which cuts out all surrounding noise much more that the sennheiser and others because they use a silcon ear insert.
The sennheisers are a great set for budgets BUT I super glue the flimsy silcon bud to the headphone as there is nothing more annoying than lossing them!! I never had that problem with the Shure. still here is the prices for the cx300 II

they also do a line mic version with volume (which may be something to consider if your thinking of smart phoneing your music soon.
personally I wouldn't spend more than 100chf on the outdoor set. I just trash them in my pockets/ loses the buds/ break the cord or leave them some where.
And as rightly said I find it better to have two pairs. as buds for long distance travel are sore on the ears the sound can't compete with a proper headset. although I don't walk round town with a headset like dr dre's (buds for town). I do have a full closed set for home and travel.
I use sennheiser HD380 pro, which I like because they are studio range (not consumer this means just about all the parts can be replaced, check the manual), extended range closed design, foldable, with a carry case for travel and have the most important feature for me 3m COILED cable. So when coiled it's about 1m long. that way I have my ipod in my back pocket when moving around and the cable shoved in there to. and at night Home cinema time it extends to about 2-2.5M, comfy enough but the cable gets tight over that and it isn't practical. Anyway they are about 150chf.

But for some on this board this still won't be enough, and will want you to get open can's but these are only really good for at home use only as the sound leaks out something terrible hence disturbing all those about you.
another thing is bass, it's totally subjective to you! but some manufacturers are more heavy than others. in general sennheiser are neutral some say bass lite. I have heard a pair of HD239 which are on-ear half size which I hated as they where too bass heavy and had a muffled sound to me!! but for others they think that's great!!
for 200chf you should be able to get some good home/travel and earbuds, good luck!
One really important last note is if your music collection is from itunes years ago you may have imported you music with default settings at 128k, this is terrible I would consider upgrading to at least 256 or more. It's mind bogling how many people run really expensive cans with low bit rate music. even upgrading you music bit rate will significantly enhance your expereince with even cheap or moderate cans/buds.

The CX300-II models have received a lot of rave reviews for their good cost/performance.
There's a helpful comparison of some good models here:

Of course, it also depends what you listen to normally.
Good luck and happy listening.
I would consider the sennheiser MM50 over the CX300 II as you have the iphone. it's basicly the same but has integrated mic and answer controls.

I haven't heard a pair of mm50 but have heard both cx300 I and II. If anyone else has a pair and would like to comment on there performance comment here.
and Again can't really stress this enough,
one down side for me though is I run an old ipod 30gb click wheel. upgrading the music means I get less tracks on the pod and because of the HDD it consumes more power. but I still love it as it's an American one and as such it doesn't have the eu volume restriction on it. so I can play it loud!
