Best places to buy furniture in Zurich?

Anyone advice on good places to buy funiture in Zurich, - not IKEA and not hugely expensive?

Thanks!

Interio

Not as cheap as IKEA but then no where is.

pfister /möbel hubacher which is in rothrist. More expensive than Ikea but better quality too....

Hi,

i have just bought furnitures for my new home.

If you are lloking for a resaonably cheap furniture shop you can visit Lipo.

Other wise Ikea is good....!

By the way do you know anyone who assembles the furnitures at a cheaper rate...! pls can u help me with the contact details and how much do they charge...?

Thats the advantage of Pfister or Möbel Hubacher. They will assemble the furniture they deliver to you....

We have bought quite a bit of stuff from these guys, reasonably priced & good quality : http://www.moebelmaerki.ch/kontakt.html

I found IKEA quite reasonable in price and quality. Why not IKEA???

Because it's crap.

dave

But it is better crap then the rest like Lipo, Conforama.

Anyway i have no plans to bring my furniture back to UK and no plans to stay in Switzerland forever.

You may want to have a look at schubiger möbel . They're located near the Glatt shopping center and it's a pretty big store.

thanks all for your suggestions - i will surely go and check out the places you mentioned!

...and design furniture? Any ideas for classic design furniture?

Does anyone know by any chance where i can buy design furniture in Zurich... i am just looking for Philip Stark chairs, nothing too cutting edge... just the Bubble Armchair, Ero(s), Victoria Ghosts?

I am also trying to find Bauhaus classics reproductions, but also to no avail... Actually, i was recommended steelform.com, but they cannot deliver in Switzerland. Has anyone used other on-line shop, real shop?

Many thank for your help,

Lucy

hi Lucy,

there are a several shops selling design furniture second-hand, esp in Zurich. This is what I got when I googled it:

http://www.google.ch/search?hl=de&q=...cr%3DcountryCH

We're ordered a lot of furniture new from these two places and have been happy with both. Switzerland being what it is, they are far more expensive than ordering on-line from neighboring countries though, which we've never done but would like to try next time:

I read somewhere that there is a big market on ebay and ricardo for second-hand designer furniture, so much so that the second-hand prices often go higher than buying new (might want to keep that in mind should you decide to sell )

If you are into Designer Second hand Furniture go to Bogen33. They have a website if you want to see what sort of things they have. We have bought a lot of very cool furniture there which is in excellent condition.

Being a useless bloke I can't really comment on whether it's good design or not, but my girlfriend loves the design from this store:

You certainly won't find ikea-esque stuff in there!

I bought most of my furniture from a place called Top-Tip. Not hugely expensive and not top quality but better than Ikea IMHO. However, each store has their own designs and this will be something to consider as well. Micasa is expensive but their quality is higher. They also provide budget-labelled furniture.

if you're looking for cheap and cheerful, Conforama is just that. In fact many of their stores look like a riot has happened there!

Mobitare and Pfister are nice.

Also consider going to Waldshut if you're in the north or Varese if you're in the south

pfister is ace!

the price range has good variety, you wont be skint afterwards.

good quality they have, bought a lot from them.

and they delivered in 2days time with free assembling/setup.

what against ikea?

sometimes i cant tell what place im at (jimmy's? fred's? catherine's? or at the ikea "showroom" itself?) because every

flat looks shitty the same... catalogue "styled" flats.

plus its quality is crap.

by the way: try brockenhaus too. its 2nd hand stuff, but i have bought some very nice lamps in there kind of bauhaus-style that would take at the antique shop 10times as much then there. and i have bought a bureau chair nearly brand new for 80sfr when the shop price might be 500sfr. seems a compny went bankrupt and brockenhaus catched it for a song. it depends if you feel comfy with it, if you like it or not. but is kind of fair trade...

In defence of Ikea they are great when you are starting out & have a whole flat to furnish. We kitted out our first place mainly with Ikea as it was cheap & cheerful, now we are older & have a bit more dosh we are replacing it with better quality furniture from other shops. I wouldn't shop there now but in the beginning they were great.

some Ikea items go on for ever. Some don't. For certain things, Ikea is still a great place to go even when you're old and minted
