Best places to buy furniture in Zurich?

but the question was/is BEST places, not cheapest.

to furnish your first own flat especially you didnt have

had a student dig or no left overs worth keeping/able to

assemble again...ok.

BEST is still very SUBJECTIVE

ok. but then it aint worth opening a thread and asking this question. because its like "where to eat nice?" saying "mc dumb!"

everybody knows ikea and this "brand" is the same everywhere.

thats why im thinking nobody would expect this advice

when asking because he/she will already know. dont you think?

anyway...figure out what you like and go for it.

aint worth "fighting" because its up to yourself.

off.

I just counted eight different recommendations for shops other than Ikea in the posts above and that is not including the designer ones. What more do you want .

Well as everybody knows Ikea and others shipper ones, do you ever try the brockenhouse of Zurich the one closed to HB, in there sure used but some times in very good conditions you could even find brand name items as Dior. You could be surprise what you find in this place

There is a place in front of the Forlibuchstrasse (sp) tram stop on line 4 (Zurich West area) called:

Imperial Mobel Ag

Hardturmstrasse 82, ZUrich, ZH, Switzerland

Phone: 442728554

They have been "going out of business" since I moved here, but they do have some nice furniture. Prices vary...but they will bargain. I bought 2 huge handmade tables there. Almost bought a leather couch. YMMV

I asked for some advice and also thanks to the additional question of Lucy, I feel this thread has provided quite a few options.

At least for me it is very helpful and I got a list of places now I want to go next week, so thanks to everyone contributing!

No doubt this could be useful to others as well. I will add any other places I come across.

Cheers

second hand????? how very dare you!!!

It is * vintage* furniture that i am talking about

Anyway, thank you all for your help - i was far from imagine that i would have these sort of shops in Zurich....

When i was living in St Gallen, i often went to Lindau and Bregen. Specially in Lindau, you can find very nice peices at good price. Now it is more complicated trip to do....

It seems that customs have gone stricter over the past couple of years. A few on-line shops, like steelform.com no longer ship to Switzerland due to all the problems they have to clear customs. Will let you know if i find any that is willing to ship to Switzerland with an affordable shipping rate.... Actually, between the Visa handling fees (or comissions), a strong Euro and the shipping it is no that much cheaper to import furniture anymore....

Thank you all again,

Lucy

hello,

i bought all my design furniture (flexform, poltrona frau, catellani & smith and so on) in italy at very convenient price. almost 50% less then sold in switzerland, included of swiss taxes, transport and dougane cost.

Hello Sally,

Where did you buy it? On-line store, any specific place....?

Thanks,

Lucy

Hello lucy.

I just sent you a pm. cheers

Aren't you going to tell the rest of us how and where you bought your furniture for 50% off prices in Switzerland?

Just skimmed through this thread and I don't think anyone has mentioned Fly yet.

http://www.fly.ch/

They're a strange mix of really nice stuff at decent prices and...utter rubbish. I've bought a few things from them and the service has always been first class, including delivery times. "What, this Friday?" was my response when I bought a wardrobe on Wednesday evening and the guy said it would be delivered Friday at 8am...

Anyway, check out the online catalogue.

i actually told lucy on pm where to go and i never got any feedback from her not even a thanks .

it is not my intention to make advertisments here of thsoe shops. my advice is if you are looking for a specific brand type it in google.it and look for shops around como or Milano. there are really many.

if you know what you want, you can directly ask them via email for an offer (keep in mind also delivery cost, tax, dogane and insurance and that you can negotiate the price).

i hope it was of help.

Thanks sally, it is helpful to know how you got your swish looking designer furniture for less than extortionate prices they want here in swissie-land

We're in the process of buying a house in Vaud and I haven't even thought about where we're going to furnish it from.

We have a Pfister about 2 minutes away - can we get decent high-endish stuff for the whole house from there?

And does anyone have experience of ordering online from some of those nice French designer furniture websites for delivery in CH?

That was not the way my mother raised me, that much i can promise you........ Actually, your pm caught me 9 time zones away from home, and it kind of felt through the cracks....

Interestingly enough, just yesterday i start to put some thoughts on finishing to furnish my flat once for all.... will definetly give it a try sometime in the near future (i.e. before the next ice age begins).... To my taste, the selection is very good. Will let you know how it works....

Once again, thank you very much Sally, and i apologize for not thanking you properly

Lucy

Hi

I've also heard that you should go to Italy to buy big items of furniture - would love to know where to go as we need new sofas...

Thanks

Sharon

Several of my Swiss co-workers bought all their furniture in Germany, either in Waldshut or Singen. Most large furniture stores there are used to dealing with Swiss clients, will deliver to many parts of Switzerland for free, and will handle the VAT (value added tax) transaction (refund of the 19% German VAT, pay the Swiss 7.x% VAT) and deal with custom duties as well.

I can get names of furniture houses on the other side of the border if you would like me to.

www.arredopiu.net

Near Varese, just over the border from the area Fox Town is in.

Recommended. Negotiate. They remove tax and deliver.
