Best places to buy furniture in Zurich?

I did that as well...

I bought my bedroom, in Singen, the same brand as found in CH (MöbelMark and Pfister), for 1700 francs less. The store is Mobel Braun ( http://www.braun-moebel.de ). I also got matresses and my girl's beds in Germany as well (Rheinfelden), but I don't remember the store's name... Anyway, there are several options close to the border...

Yes please!

We've been thinking of going away for a weekend so guess where we're going now

Here a list of furniture sites that I've compiled so far:

www.poltronesofa.com/index_eng.htm

www.doimosalotti.it/home.php Doimo Salotti - Il salotto più famoso d'Italia

Some of the stuff is really fancy.

FYI - my wife and I spent a week looking at Ikea, Pfister/Mobilitaire/Wohnland, Interio, and Schubiger Mobel... in our opinions schubiger mobel was the superior store as far as best quality for price if you want better quality than Ikea.

I lurve Pfister. Mobiltaire is also good, a bit more contemporary. The salespeople in Schubiger are superslimy in my experience, and their styles are a bit staid. With the exception of some wonderful huge sofas with loud bright prints and theatrical designs. They did have one with springs instead of legs, but I don't think they would last the week...

PS: Schubiger is open this Sunday.

Really? that wasn't our experience at all. The Schubiger mobel salesman was patient, polite, and very accomodating (i'd recommend him, his name is Alain) - arranged us free delivery and free loaner furniture (well - i'm sure it's built into the price but there was no mention of this beforehand so it was a very nice thing to find out about). Also he was happy to extend the end-date of the current sale they are having since "we've already started business today". Anyways - I thought their styles were generally in-line with Pfister's ... i'll definitely grant you that on *average* they have less uber-modern stuff but that's not what I like anyways... but they defiinitely have the full range.

Just my $0.02.

Just read a newspaper insert for www.resedahome.ch

They seem to have some interesting real wood furniture, which has got to be an improvement on coated MDF.

dave

Not bad. Yeah, i never buy MDF unless it's for like, the guest room or something

I like some of pfister's stuff, but we've had a horrible time with delivery and assembly - they've been here 3 times trying to get things put together properly - this is for a wohncombination and a vitrine. They're coming again next week for what is, I hope, the last time. And I swear I'm staying away from Lyss - what a zoo. The one in Bern is good.

We bought our bed from Pfister - the matress is wonderful, best I've ever had, and we bought the simple frame because we couldn't agree on what we wanted as a bed frame. Unfortunatley, the installers put the bed frame together wrong.

Fortunately, the guy who came last week fixed that as well. I think they're fine, you just have to keep on them. Our mistake was that we bought one of these very customizable things, wanted the same configuration as the floor model and there was no communication between the salesman and the installation people.

We bought our sofa from Moebel maerki, and it's wonderful. Very nice quality, comfortable, reasonable. We also got a rug and a couple of lamps from them that I really like. When my husband bought the sofa, it took 3 months to have it made, and they gave us a sofa on loan free of charge.

We'll probably buy our bed frame and the thing we put the tv-stereo on from Moebel Maerki. Although I really like one of the bedframes from resendas. The other difficult part of furniture shopping is negotiation with one's spouse/partner/whatever.

You don't want guests to be too comfortable , or they might not leave ...

dave

Dave - ha, exactly. ESPECIALLY when it's my parents we're talking about.

edot - holy crap you're a dog!?! how do you get your paws to press individual keys?!

we liked pfister's stuff a lot, but uh, it's out of our price range mostly

Indeed.....and a rather talented one too. Thank you!

They have some nice large gilted-mirrors, that would expand a room but like many people, my drilling skills are not be trusted fixing a monolith to someone else's wall....

I was in Schubiger this afternoon as they were open the last couple of SUndays, I didnt note if this will continue but check their website.

It was packed. The car park was completely full. There was there air-of-hysteria, that I have never noted in a furniture shop before. Maybe it was the pent-up demand to buy something on a Sunday ?

Anyhow, contrary to previous anecdote, a very friendly salesman called Ali proved more than competent in his job, and restored my faith in furniture salesmen.

I still want one of the these ....

dave

Glad I went on friday when it was empty then! No clue why it was so full...

Looks like this company:

http://www.7day.ch/

has some nice, well priced furniture - especially leather sofas. Think I might take a look this weekend. Anyone been?

I have not been, but you're a star! If you only knew how long I had been looking for some polyratten balcony furniture at non-stupid prices.

dave

I totally agree with you. So why not Ikea?

Although Interio is good as well but sometimes their furnitures get too pricey.

Try Conforama, Fly, Micasa and Lipo. I think the cheapest is from Lipo.

BUT once you buy cheap furnitures, they are not really good in quality. Don't compromise the quality with the price.

Check out Ricardo ( www.ricardo.ch ) as well, the 7Day group often has new furniture for sale there, at even lower prices.

Barbra.

I went to 7day the other week, and came away disappointed. The shop was a bit small, and they don't have all of their sofas on display (and not the one we were most interested in ). Still worth a look though - some of the other sofas, beds & polyratten furniture looked okay.
