Actress Brittany Murphy, who starred in films such as Just Married, Clueless and 8 Mile, has died at age 32.The actress died on Sunday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills, a hospital spokeswoman has confirmed.
The LA Times said Murphy went into cardiac arrest, but hospital sources would not release the cause of death. Murphy was married to British screenwriter Simon Monjack. The couple lived in Los Angeles. Reports said the LA fire department responded to a medical call at Murphy's home in West Hollywood at 0800 local time (1600 GMT).
Two hours later, she was pronounced dead at hospital.
Murphy grew up in New Jersey but moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue acting. She got her start in the sleeper hit Clueless and rose to stardom in 8 Mile alongside rapper Eminem. Her on-screen roles declined in recent years, but Murphy voiced characters for the hit US television series, King of the Hill, and animated movie Happy Feet.
She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone's film, The Expendables, set for release next year. Murphy once dated Ashton Kutcher, who co-starred with her in the 2003 romantic comedy, Just Married. Kutcher tweeted Sunday morning about Murphy's death: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. "My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon," his tweet said.
Honestly, can't say I am any more bothered by her death than the countless, nameless other people her age that died today. Tragic, yes, but eventful, no.
While it's always tragic when somebody dies, I must admit that I haven't clue who she was - today being the first time I've even heard her name. I don't even recognise her face
Very sad, she was a great, quirky actress and one of my favourite hollywood starlets... not one of the top A-listers so not acclaimed like many others, but she was great in Clueless and Girl, Interrupted. I hope it wasn't a drugs-related death.
While that's all of course very noble etc etc, this is a thread specifically about Brittany Murphy, so I see no reason for re-directing the thread to the worlds suffering... we all know what goes on in the world but we're talking about a specific instance here. If you want to shed a tear for every person in the world dying, then maybe it's an idea start a new thread?
You're right, Richdog ... kinda. What some posters are pointing out in this thread is that on the global scale, this one death pales by comparison. I would say that for the family and friends of Brittany Murphy, her death is tragic. For her fans, it's sad. And for all of us who didn't know her at all, well ... Brittany was one of thousands to die on Sunday. I don't mean to sound callous, but them's the facts.
Yes 22 y, but I think Richdog meant that if someone is not interested in these news there is still no point in derailing it and focus on world suffering. I personally, am sorry she died so young as I enjoyed her acting.
A friend of mine died at 29 of cardiac arrest. Fit as a fiddle, loved martial arts, non-smoker and light social drinker. No one could quite believe it even at the funeral. Go figure
Yup, rarely (though I know it does happen) do healthy 32-year old women with no long-term illnesses die on the spot in natural circumstances... and we all know from previous celeb mishaps what the pressures of being rich and famous, and temptations that go along with it, can lead to.
I'd give myself 10-20 years max if I was now suddenly thrust into that sort of limelight with that sort of money without some sort of major change in perspective.
Ok a little derailment. One thing is a cardiac arrest and another a heart attack. A cardiac arrest can occur at such young ages it occurs when you have a congenital heart disease that has not been diagnosed. A heart attack at that age though is not common, many thing could have played a role here besides what everyone else thinks including stress...
