i subscribe to cablecom digital with the mediabox recorder.... i would love to get their new hdtv service but do not want to lose the recording functionality that i currently have, so i will wait until q1 next year when they say they will release hdtv with a recorder (hopefully!!).
my question is, since cablecom said they will offer their hd service from october 2007, has anyone signed up for this? i dont see how you do it from the cablecom website???
seems like cablecom has successfully made a huge impact with their mega successful marketing campaign for the first available cable hdtv service in switzerland, haha.
I don't think they have much to advertise, I was looking through their site, and it seems they have ony one channel available, and only another three coming next year.
The current channel sounds pretty dull too.
Maybe they don't want to over hype and then disappoint.
The only thing so far that interests me is the channel that will be showing Euro 2008 in HD (HD Suisse). I'm still hoping they will have the BBC HD channel at some point because I would like the commentary to be in English. Anixe HD could be ok (especially if they shown the films in dual language)
Actually, I feel disappoint for CableCom's digital TV. The pciture quality is not good as analog channel.
I ordered the media recorder box from Cablecom, and I found that for same channel, the pciture quality without media box (directly connect to cable) is better than connect to the media box. It looks like the media box degrade the pciture quality.
My TV is only 32" LCD HD ready TV. If bigger one, I think even worse. For Media box, I only can watch more channel and English programs. Howcome CableCom use the media box designed at stone age.
as far as i was aware from their site, they are offering 3 hd channels from the get go, and adding another by the end of the year, and then say that this will be expanded further in 2008 along with a mediabox recorder in q1.
thats in a pdf on the site. but i dont see any place to actually order it, or any other info apart from the pdf.
apparently, it launches 27th November [German] with 3 channels. Pro7/HD, Sat.1/HD and (I guess) the soon-to-launch Suisse/HD from SRG which is presently a test stream on 13e/Hotbird
Been waiting for this lot to launch for ages. However, will wait until just before Euro 2008 to order as I have no interest in watching Pro 7 and Sat 1 in HD for an additional 15 Francs a month.
But for those interested:
You can exchange your 6 franc per month box for the 15 franc model that has the HD capability. But as we have our HDTV set-up in another room we're not bothering. Will stick to DVD movies for now...
I cannot find any photos of the new HD Box on the website - does anyone know if it is just a HD version of the Thompson/ADB box supplied with the current offerings? or something else?.
unfortunately it is without the recording functionality, which rules it out for me... the cablecom recorder being one of the things i really like to use.
latest info from cablecom is that they plan to roll out a recording version of the hd box in summer 2008.... yawn.... yawn... yawn.
i was really looking forward to hdtv through cablecom, but they manage to screw it up of course.
It also appears on the surface at least, from the TV guide on cablecom.ch that the HD channels do not have zweikanalton.... i could be wrong, but it wouldnt surprise me. It took them about a year and a half to release a software update for the last box to solve that.
Innovate please cablecom, dont just continue to disappoint.
Price apart, that's a killer for me, as I like to watch stuff in the original language. I'm still finding my way around my (week old) recorder box, but have noticed that it doesn't do the second language bit properly. Taking TSR 1 & 2 for example, the language in the options screen shows up as ORG, for "original language", but in the settings you can only choose from English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The end result is that you have to select the language manually. Sorry, but my 5 year old TV can get that right.
im thinking of getting a bigger flat screen tv soon.... i bought my last sony flat screen at inflated prices about 2 years ago...... and i still dont have any HD to broadcast on it.
Just been digging around the cablecom site looking at the HD options. Looks like they've put back the HD recorder to Summer of this year.
I did find this nugget , seems you can get the HD receiver, and keep your recorder. You won't be able to record the HD of course, but it seems they'll upgrade you to the HD recorder as soons as it becomes available.
Course, you have to pay an extra 15chf a month to get the HD receiver.
