I would be happy to join as well next time.
Let me know when a group or a few ppl are going to be there.
Ursdorf on Sunday: "traditional" size covered rink. Beautiful ice, split half for hockey and half for open skating (which consisted of a lot of the local skating school).
Kloten report coming after Wednesday evening, no doubt, then Rapperswil on Saturday and Diesldorf on Sunday
Beautiful ice though. Could even do figures with my year-blunt blades
How are the people in Urdorf? The general consensus from the Heuried regulars was that the players were a bit jerks, and unfriendly-and they didn't have proper goals to play with (had to use someone's boots)?
They generally said it wasn't too pleasant last season.
(I have no idea I'm afraid... I didn't so much as cast a glance over the forbidden side of the rink.)
They do an ice cut every hour and it's the waxy stuff figure skaters' dreams are made of. Bonus: free for the entire Herbstferein.
Standard set up, half for hockey with soft pucks, half for open skating. Lots of small kids but manageable (actually managing to practise rather than bail or skate around for space 50% of the time counts as pretty decent).
Definitely my favourite rink so far and second bonus, the one closest
Third bonus: one passes the zoo on the way there. I wasn't expecting to see a giraffe glare at me en route.
Soft pucks? Never seen them used in CH. A bit more common in Canada when playing with schools or other liability risks.
Deal breaker for me! Real puck or nothing!
I hit up Dolder on Thursday evening, ice was good, crowd was good. I think that will be my chneble go-to location for the season when not playing organized.
Let me know when you're next in Dolder! Rapperswil isn't open in the evenings on weekdays and I miss skating near daily (even if I last did years ago).
define "soft" puck.. im used to getting hit with the galvanized stuff although i usually have shin pads when that happens but every once in a while it hits you in the sweet spot where it leaves a nice blue and black mark for a few weeks....
I'm in basel and Margarethen park does not open until Mid November... Eglisee is open on October 31st but for someone thats used to playing year round that is blasphemy to me...
let me know who is going where in the next 2-3 weeks.. i work in Zurich so i wont think twice about shoving my skates into my backpack with my laptop and coming out after work to get some game time in... need to scratch that itch
In Zurich, I've always played with a vulcanized puck (I'm guessing galvanized was a misnomer--or a really cool puck!). I also play with shin guards. That being said I do have a 4 stitch scar on my forehead from a deflected puck at Dolder a few years back. A few people do wear the bucket as well. And a cup, I don't play without a cup.
I will definitely be up at dolder this weekend, either Friday night or sat. Maybe even Thursday. I'll update here later.
Dolder is THE ONLY place in Zurich for ice skating and chneble until Herbst 2017. I have also heard it mentioned that Oerlikon will then be closed for re-development after that. IF so, it may be MANY years before Zurich is back to three locations to play chneble - definitely a bummer!
Here is the Dolder chneble schedule

Some times it can be AWESOME fun - some times not - all depends on who shows up.....
The Heuried closure is definitely a drag.... I played there every Thursday night from October to March.... and I will really miss those evenings now.
There are also more serious hockey options if you want to don full pads.
ENJOY!
