So this morning I tripped as the dog turned over - as I was bringing a coffee to drink whilst on MacBook - I turned it over, dried it and took our the battery to dry -but it is as dead as a Dodo!
It is 5 year old and served me well... but. Where shall I purchase a replacement? Direct on line from Apple CH- or is there a better and cheaper option. Advice most welcome.
The price should be same wherever you buy from. Apple regulate the prices quite strictly normally. I like the service from the apple store so i'd buy from there.. Plus if you don't have a good backup, you could probably take your old one in and they'd recover the data from the hard disk to the new one, it's pretty unlikely that's actually damaged.
End of last year my daughter spilled a beer over my 6 year old mac book, it died and I called my insurer.. They said no problem, we'll collect it and either repair or replace it. I was over the moon knowing that the model was obsolete and they'd end up giving me a mac book pro. So imagine my horror, three days later when it sprung back to life, just before the courier was due to collect it!!
So I threw another beer over it to finish it off. I'm now typing on my shiney new mac book pro.
Edit to add -- Apple's online store usually has a refurb section with saving of about 20%, it's hit and miss what's there but good saving and same warranty.
If a third party has spilled the coffee, they would pay. But I told them I did it - so they won't! I back up regularly so data should be ok. OH will check some shops when in La Chaux-de-Fonds tomorrow- but I suppose we will order from Apple ch.
One of my neighbours in UK wanted a new dining-room - so she put the plug in the bath (above said dining-room) turned taps on and went to town. When she returned the ceiling had caved in and she got ... guess what... not only a new dining-room, furniture carpets, lights re-decorated - then she said new carpet didn't perfectly match lounge with dividing doors ... then hall, then stairs.
She just couldn't understand why I was furious and said it was not her problem if I am honest Her husband was a very very well paid vet. Grrrrr= like shop lifting- we all pay for it all in the end.
what odile said. a friend was by a few months ago, bumped into the cat who then bumped into a vase of flowers which then spilled over my year old macbook.
after bringing it to the mac store and explaining, they said to specify it was my friend who was at fault ( ) and insurance did pay, but she then was dropped from her insurance shortly after...
*edit- apple must make a killing on liquid related replacements. my apple store said they get at least 8 of them a week!
I'll have to check the cost of having the new computer as a specified item on the insurance, as they would have paid if it was. If I had said it was my little neighbour who ho had caused the damage (I look after him regularly)it would have been THEIR third party insurance that would have paid, not mine.
Since Neuchatel is not considered important enough to have one the nearest apple store is a pretty long way away from here so taking the old one in would be a pretty major trek for the OP.
Never had a mac so I wouldn't really know where the best place to get one from around here.
