connecting laptop to TV

This is the perfect solution, all you need to know is how to build this

Just joking. You could try a brought one like this, but its expensive

Seriously this is getting too complicated as alot of times when you switch from VGA-HDMI, VGA-Composite wont work without a little box. The link I sent previously - wont work if you read the fine print http://www.amazon.com/12ftVGA-compon...ef=pd_sim_e_16

THIS CABLE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER'S VGA PORT TO THE COMPONENET INPUT ON YOUR HDTV unless your video card supports component out function through it's VGA port (please confirm with your video cards documentation before purchasing)

The question is why do you want to connect your laptop to the TV? Watch movies/downloads etc or reason. If the answer is the former then perhaps you can try buying one of these

Then you can watch the files on a USB stick or portable memory connected to it. The WDTVLive version costs 170CHF and has networking meaning you can connect it to your router/modem and watch youtube etc. The WDTV standard version does not and is considerably cheaper, 120CHF?

It has a HDMI out which you can plug into your TV. BTW get a cheap HDMI cable from mediamarkt for no more than 20-30CHF, all the other gold plated 50CHF+ adds no extra to your viewing pleasure or so little its hardly worh the extra mola.

If the answer is to stream live media from the internet through your laptop to the TV then yeah you need to connect it directly. BTW i did manage to set up my WDTVLive to watch live internet stream from my laptop via wifi but its amazingly complicated! So we can rule that option out.
