Yesterday I was sitting in my living room on my laptop, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted the back of my landlords head as he was moving away from our window. We live on upper ground floor so window is not in normal eye line, you have to walk right up to it to look in.
I went to the front door to speak to him but he got straight into his car and drove off. Now I'm paranoid and watching the window all the time.
I told my partner and he said that maybe he was checking if it was clean etc. But still he has no right does he?
We have blinds but I like them open in the day otherwise I feel like a prisoner.
Landlord is strange for the first 2 months of us living here he knocked the door twice a week to check if everything was okay, now he has taken to finding out himself. I spoke to the previous tenants and they said they didn't see the landlord for 2 years, so wtf? I notice his car is in the car park 3-4 days a week, no idea why or where he is as he doesn't live here.
I think it may encourage him to look. I'm hoping to catch him today (hopefully not at my window) and maybe ask him if he was looking for me yesterday? I was wondering whether to ring (his wife always answers the phone) and ask if he wanted something.
Anyone else think the Swiss are the nosiest bunch in the world ?
I had a similar problem.. nearly every time my girlfriend and her, female, friend came to stay in my old place, the Hauswart would mysteriously find it the right time to tend to the communal garden, giving him ample opportunity to stare through the living room windows.
If he does it again, and you don't make eye contact, you could call the police...say you saw a man staring through the window.. when (if) they turn up tell them he looked a little bit like your landlord.. maybe they'll question him.. maybe they'll scare the sh*t out of him...
Our neighbor always looks in when she goes downstairs, so we started to play little scenes for her, like kissing madly over the kitchen table LOL and I started hanging sexy lingerie and nightwear in the basement. By now I think it's more entertaining for us than for her
Unless he does this frequently,or you catch him the second time, I don't think you should get paranoid about it.Moms with teenage daughters always get easily worried May be he was really checking if all is ok/clean
He was visited by the police because of a neighbour who complained about my colleague walking around the house naked.
Luckily the police saw the funny side - the neighbour showed the police that to see my colleague she had to go to her staircase which turned half way down. Then she had to stand on a box at this turn & peer out throught a small window that was high on the wall & only at 6am.
Then she could see my colleague who slept naked & walked down his stairs every morning to the shower room.
I had the same problem with my landlord, I have also catched him twice sitting in my garden!, and when he saw me , he just tried to run away, but I saw him, and he stared to say, that he was just looking the plants and the trees to see if there was a need of some maintenance , I have asked one of my neighbour , if they were having the same problems (since he was the owner of few apartments there), and they confirmed me that they were having the same problem!
So, I decided to start to look for another apartment , as he was always, around checking everything, and enyoing my garden more then me!......and I could not stand this situation anymore! I am glad i found another place now, and so do all the other neighbours did the same, as I do not have anymore any creepy landlord spying me from the window, and cheking on everything I was doing!!!!
I think that's a good idea - it lets him know you're on to him if he's doing something he shouldn't be. Also, it shows that your not going to take things passively. That way too, it means that you won't just assume he's a weirdo - it could have been something innocent.
If you do start to feel uncomfortable, I agree the best thing is to start looking for somewhere else.
