For a while I ignored TWINT, but eventually installed it as I found it useful to be able to pay for stuff when I forgot my wallet. Which actually increased the amount of times I left my wallet at home.
I resisted getting it when it was first introduced as I didn’t see much point to it but I’ve had it a few years now and use it all the time.
As others have said it’s a godsend for paying for parking and it’s useful for sending money to friends etc.
If you sell things at a market/crafts fair you can also create TWINT QR stickers for each item.
It’s been great for unmanned (and manned) farm shops too as they just need a QR code to be scanned.
Our recycling also uses TWINT. Weigh your stuff and then pay according to the weight.
Excellent also for paying for/selling second hand items rather than cash.
Like PayPal though, they take a cut from the seller.
I use TWINT as much as possible for CH-based internet shopping, especially for galaxus, as I can choose within the TWINT app from what account I pay (VIsa, personal account, or joint account).
why? Aren’t all the Twint apps the same? I was thinking about getting Twint, I haven’t got it yet because perhaps I don’t need it , but my choice would be the prepaid to limit the clutter on the bank account. With Revolut I transfer some pocket money per month so my bank account has just 1 transaction per month
I forgot - the other bit of usefulness is sharing costs amongst friends. I prefund group squash sessions, the others mostly now refund me by twint. In the old days I used to have to handle a couple of Kg in coins all the time!
I use it to take payment for extras like pet cleaning charges and tourist tax which are not included in the base rental price. Really convenient, but only for Swiss guests. It’s about time the various phone payment systems in other countries were made compatible with each other.
Edit: otherwise it’s mostly cash, generally not large amounts, but I do occasionally get someone wanting to use a credit card, which is a right PITA as I have to create a payment request in my booking system and send it to them.
yes, that’s why Revolut/Wise covers all my needs. There are also Swiss “app only” banking options with CC if someone wants to stay with local providers.
