Dr Who TV series

Wut..? Billie Piper is now the Doctor .

Uff!

Seems so. How it’s going to be explained will have to wait until the next series - if there is one.

"There is still uncertainty about when the drama will return. Russell T Davies has previously said that no decision would be made on commissioning the next series until this series had been broadcast.

The last two series of the show have been co-produced and broadcast internationally by streaming service Disney+, which has given the time travel drama a bigger budget. Discussions about whether the BBC and Disney wish to renew that deal, or whether other options should be explored, are likely to take some time.

For a new series to be ready for 2026, production would need to get under way relatively soon. So at the moment a new series or a special starring Billie Piper before 2027 looks unlikely."

The “experts” were apparently posting after the episode that she was credited with “Introducing Billie Piper” rather than “The Doctor” at the end of the show, so perhaps a red herring?

If anyone can get it I noticed that U & Eden channel were showing old Dr Who episodes the other day.

Also BBC 3, as of last Saturday (Sept. 23rd) starts at 9pm CET.
Two episodes plus an episode of Doctor Who Confidential.

2 episodes from William Hartnell’s days at Dr Who have been found.

I head about that and got my Whovian on.
Perhaps we can watch some old Who at some point.

Do not do this in Germany, it is illegal there:

Just found seasons 1-5 on piratebay. If you use this in Germany without a VPN you will almost surely get an expensive Abmahnung because it is illegal there and Big Brother is watching you. It may be illegal in Switzerland if the used software does upload too.

Tbh, think it’s more than run its course. Time for the Tardis to vanish into the unknown universe.

No, although it has more than run its woke course with the Beeb, I think the BBC will sell the franchise to one of the streaming sites.

Woke aliens, what ever next

I think that the main issue with the way the franchise was going it that the Doctor should be mysterious and not a weeping gay black guy in touch with his inner feelings.
Peter Capaldi and David Tennent were the last doctors worthy of the name but even the second coming of David Tennent between Whittaker and Gatwa was stretching it a bit.
Jar Jar Binks would have made a better doctor…
The writing and story telling in the last years has been very sub-par, tepid and uninspired and for me it was more about getting the “message” out rather that entertaining the fan base.
Not all is lost though; there is rumor of a Startrek Strange new Worlds and Dr. Who crossover.

I recall watching a few of the Whitaker ones, maybe just one of the later one from a couple of years ago. they all seem too much bang bang, stuff happens, move on, don’t ask questions. Which is to say that they didn’t seem to have any real internal consistency.

I can’t say that I noticed anything ‘woke’ about them, not at all. Unless they’re saying that any reference to gender or sexuality that’s not 100% cis is inherently ‘woke’. Oh wait, that is what they’re saying, isn’t it?

Anyway, yes, I think its time is done, its course is run, I won’t be mourning its demise.

I agree, too many special effects and a weak storyline

Isn’t that its enduring charm, though? Back in the day it was all wobbly sets, questionable film locations (“mum, that looks like the beach in XYZ we went to!”), unconvincing costumes and improbable story-lines. I always assumed this was because it was made for kids.

Now, the BBC seems to have shut it down partially because there’s increasing grumbling from grown-ass men who want it to be complex, nuanced, and slick as one of the Marvel film series, and cast with manly men and girly girls.

Hope they don’t sell it to one of the big streaming platforms that ruins it in this way :frowning:

Nerd comment
It started off as an education program for kids and the original Dr Who visited historical locations and explained them.

Is there an alternate reality where Marvel film series are nuanced and slick?

Damn. Commas matter. Have fixed. :joy:

Other problem is the one episode storylines that the series mostly has since its revival. The old series used to have stories stretching over several episodes and one year it stretched over the entire series. One episode storylines give no time to develop the actual story.
