Again I have hit a brick wall in the vain attempt at putting my daughter through her driving test. So far I have had alot of good advice from you all so here I am hoping that this will continue.
I am having no joy in finding a test centre that can provide the theory test booklet or CD in English, and will also host the test in English. I have searched on line and have also been into the licence office in Bern which was a total waste of time as they were unable to provide me with any information at all.
So my question is, does anyone know of a Kanton that provides the teory driving test examination booklet and the examination itself in English........??? please help or I think I will go bald with all the hair pulling I am doing.........
This page has a table (scroll down) saying that BASIS is available in Bern. Try one of the numbers below the table; someone will speak English if your German isn't up to it.
Bern not only do not do anything in English, but they have no idea where you can get this service.......as I said a total waste of time..........some great place I live in
Hi! I'm not sure if I've understood the post correctly. But I am currently reviewing too for my driver's license theory exam. I just bought the official reviewer they suggested here (I'm in Kanton AG). It's called "EasyDriver", with 2 CD's & a book available at Ex-libris or Stauffacher. I bought the German version though, although I've seen the English version sitting right next to it. It's quite good! Hope it could help..
So it looks like I am off into sunny Bern tomorrow to find what I need. Isn ́t it amazing that no one at the licence office in Bern could or would help me on this issue.........
I have found a driving instructor myself and with help from this site some of the other information. I am now only short a test centre then all is cool............but everything come ́s to those that wait
My wife's got her Driving Theory test in English, the CD I sourced for her, was also in 4 languages (including English).
We are in AG, but she took her test in Winterthur ZH, because she worked in ZH and had her driving lessons there with a ZH instructor...she had yet to pass the practical test.
Funny thing was, I took the test 10 times before I passed.
I have today bought from Stauffacher Books in Bern the Easydriver 2006 which was 69.69chf. With this i received 2 CD ́s and a booklet, although the booklet is in German the CD ́s are in four languages English, French, German and Italian. There is also information with these CD ́s which helps you find a driving instructor in your area etc. Also you can send off for the booklet in any one of the four languages, which I will certainly do.
The new regulations concerning driving tests and lessons have changed recently. You must pass your theory test and first aid course before applying for a licence. Not only that but you must pass your theory test within three attempts if not you must undergo a phsycological evaluation before attempting this for the fourth time. I will keep you posted as to the progress and what or how many problems we encounter along the way.
Hi, I have completed the First Aid course, obtained an eye test, bought the theory test books in English, but am having trouble scheduling an appointment. I have just called the Strassenverkeursmt and they have told me I need to go there to apply for a theory class, then they give me a letter to schedule a test, and then I can get a test done....has anyone gone through a similar process to get a learner's permit??
I bought the EasyDriver 2007 edition, which, according to the 'Update Page' on their website, does not exist. Handy. And although it says its in English on the box, don't be fooled. I'd say the main menu is, and the test (before it crashes and closes the program) but most of it is only in French/German/Italian.
Also, I recently took my theory test in English in Lausanne, but I've heard that you can no longer do it in English. Only the official languages.
I just passed the theory test and to my knowledge the rules have changed (at least in the Geneva canton) and from 1 January 2008 you will have to sit the test in French, German or Italian only. So if you want to do it in English, you'd better hurry...
