I decided to try the Dry January thing after husband went back to work after the festive hols. Didn't cut it out completely as I had people round for a dinner party last Saturday. Husband felt he needed the "taste" of something so has stuck to alcohol free beer all month (although he had red wine when our guests were here).
Totally shocked at the scales this morning, lost 7.5 lbs! Goes to show how much empty calories are in alcohol. Downside is I've been going to bed early with camomile tea. Tried lavender tea but it was diuretic, gave me really trippy dreams about being out and about with the Spice Girls and the feeling of a hangover
I’m currently doing keto, which works great for me. Lost 5kg in 4 weeks. I do like a bit of a tipple, so gin and ‘zero’ tonic equates to 30 calories and no carbs.
Well done. Yes, alcohol contains calories but for me the killer is all the crap I feel I need to eat with it. Hard to have a glass of red wine at home without wanting to nibble some cheese. Beer? I find myself automatically reaching for the nuts and crisps. When I have a week or two off the sauce, I don’t buy any of these snacks and am sure that’s what contributes a lot to the weight loss.
That’s right. Nor potatoes. Nothing starchy and high carb, no processed foods. But load up on meat, eggs, fish, cheese, and most veg. No beer but most alcohol is fine. Spirits have zero carbs, wine a few.
I go low carb from time to time and the weight drops off. Even better, cutting wheat out of my diet really makes me clearer headed and more alert. And seems to clear out my sinuses so I sleep much better.
I did the dry January thing - I think it's a useful exercise in resetting your alcohol consumption. When I've done it before, I've drunk a lot less in the following months.
I didn't lose any weight though which I suppose is a good thing.
