I am trying to create an account and everything is in German. If I create an account by filling the German form then is there an option afterwards to display my account in English? For example on Paypal.ch one has to register in German but once you log in you can change the account language to English.
Any tips about ebay.ch? Is it better to log in with full real name or short form of the name?
Why not just register in the UK or US and then make searches in ch (or anywhere else for that matter). I still use my UK ebay account and have a number of possible delivery addreses including my home here
Did somebody find out how to force paypal payment that are in CHF to be done in English?
I mean for somebody paying with a credit card...
Anybody?
I have the problem that when the website redirects to paypal in order to be paid in CHF, even if the language I have set is English it switches to German, so people gets lost and do not know how to make the payment.
hi my first time on this site, can anyone help me regards to the translation regards to german ebay? there is some stuff i am interested in bidding for but can't understand how to register onto this?? many thanks alison.
after your account is set up, you can use it to log into any of international ebay sites. If you login at www.ebay.com , you have a chance to operate your account in English.
This is a very shity but typical Swiss german thing to do....I understand it not being in English as English is not a Swiss language...but I live in Ticino for 20 years and constantly run into problems on big sites like Macintosh and many more big companies that don't even run the Italian script...it's like they don't give a **** about the ticinese...another typical thing is I will ask a Swiss German where they come from...they will motion towards Swiss German side and tell me the Swiss side?? Does that mean ticino is not switzerland??I speak fluent Italian and english and am getting sick of fat ****ing Swiss germans coming to Ticino and expecting to speak only Swiss german..when the Swiss German people start to understand the Italian culture a little or at all,I think they will have more fun on there holidays....99% of ticinese hate Swiss germans...
Yes, I have EBay.uk. Also with a few addresses. Also have EBay.com (USA). But any correspondence always comes back in German. Don't understand a word, and have to google translate if I want to know what's been said. Don't even know sometimes if it's correct or not. No option to have it in the 3 languages of our Country !! The same goes for Paypal. Use to get them always in English (that was my selected language) - now, all of a sudden everything comes back to me in German!! My account is still registered as being in English on all sites!! Even if they have any news about changes to the policies. I know the most part of people here speak German, but really, what about all the other cantons that don't? And really, it is very rare that I have fallen upon a Swiss speaking German that cannot speak French or English. I always thinks is so commendable of them to be able to do this. But does not help us much. They don't control the websites. We should have 4 language options, or at least the 3 languages of the country. I can speak French. But not possible -we are directed to E Bay France ???
As I say, the more we progress, the more we regress, alas. We could do it all before.
Wow, a reply from a post from 11 years ago! (not complaining, I wish more people would use existing threads instead of starting new ones )
I noticed last year that my personal Paypal account was always switching to German and every time I tried to switch it to English it would either log me out or take me back to a generic home screen - going back into my account it would be in German again.
I opened a new account last year for a new Swiss GmbH and everything is in English. I haven't used the old personal account since then, but I still get email newsletters and they are all in German (when I used to get them in English). Very odd.
Doesn’t seem to be anything new. I have an old Paypal.ch account which I didn’t use for years - any notifications come through in German even though the account is labelled as using English. Recently revived it for something and needed to change the password - that was fine and confirmed in English. Yet all their blurb still comes through in German.
I also hate it when companies assume your language setting because of your location - Paypal, GOG.com both do it.
Bunch of companies who think that the only official language in this country is German. The biggest crooks are Apple. Try to get anything out of them including the 30 pages of terms and conditions in any language but German.
I fail to see how “writing in German” makes them “crooks”. Would they still be crooks if they published in German, French and Italian but not Romansh? Incidentally, their website, at least, is also available in French.
Funny story - a few years ago, I wrote Tim Cook complaining about their iPhoto app. As you might know, you can order prints (cards, calendars, etc.) directly from iPhoto. However, as I was in Switzerland, the only language available was... French. Even though every other interaction I had with them was in English or German. And I couldn’t understand a damn thing, kept clicking until it finally worked.
It was like that for years; don’t know if they finally fixed it or not. His office acknowledged my complaint, recognized that the majority language is German, and said they’d have someone look into it, but it’s been a few years since I used it.
