Isnât it weird how the country that originated the best bands and musicians in the world consistently sends the worst ones to the Eurovision? Theyâre just trolling at this point.
Exactly. Estonia is the best this year.
Imo thatâs because Eurovision is âSchlager musicâ (there seems to be no translation for that) which is why I never watched it.
Good link @Axa, no I was not strong enough
I checked Estonia (the best? seriously?), listened into Great Britain and into the Nederlands. Estonia sings in Italian und the Nederlands in French?!?
That was enough, the rest I might listen in on some other day. Or probably not.
Me neither, I skipped forward many times. I cannot stand sappy ballads, remind me of the stuff aunties listened 30 years ago
Estonia is a fun deranged one. Italy is a Bowie rip off, but also fun. No idea what Australia is doing there, but Iâd not change to another station if that song comes up in the radio
Also, Iâm confused by the Portugal one. ItâsâŠcomforting.
I miss the old days of British singers like Sandie Shaw singing Puppet On A String or Lulu with Boom Bang A Bang tbh.
Weird thing is I always hated ABBA but I know the words to all of their hit songs
Those were the times when Boom Bang A Bang was chosen over the songs, written by Elton John/Bernie Taupin and Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice.
I love their Vlad the Impalerâs hairstyle and moustache.
It happened many times before, not exactly with Estonia singing in Italian of course.
Btw, the Italian song and the video is sooo funny!!!
I personally love this one.
Eurovision is predominantly Euro-pop (with the occasional unhinged spin-off) and the UK has never really been big on that genre so itâs not surprising that they donât really hit the mark with their entries year on year. The UK commentary on the TV coverage is usually one long piss-take, which kind of tells you where it sits in the nationâs psyche
Itâs entertainment!!! A costly one, but hey hoâŠ
Hard Rock Hallelujah was the peak of this shitty contest.
Yes!!!
Itâs a showcase for the current trends in audiovisual content creation.
So, itâs a bit like the weather, we donât always like it, but reasonable to think about it every once in a while.
I donât think itâs real Italian. Itâs some mix of English with Italian words.
Iâve read in the comments on YouTube that the song is quite popular on the Italian radio stations. So I hope that Italy will give Estonia lots of points.
Of course, but someone asked why they sing in Italian, didnât feel the need to say itâs a mix as I noticed many mix languages - Spanish with English etc. The bottom line is - Estonia sings something in Italian, which is not so surprising if we talk about Eurovision.
As for points - that is where the show really sucks. It looks like they all know who is supposed to win or something. After all, if a country has money to spend on participating here so be it, for me itâs just pure entertainment.
Maybe other countries should take a page out of the Finnsâ playbook this year. I mean, Sweden is sending a group of Swedish-speaking Finns to represent them and theyâre already the favorites! Itâs like theyâre once again pulling a fast one on us.
Honestly, Iâm not a fan of how they pick a winner before the contest even kicks off. Itâs like giving out participation trophies before the contest starts! And they did the same with Nemo last year. My Swedish grandma, who always passionately watches the event with a block note to rate each country, was NOT pleased at all
From Finlandâs perspective, if Sweden wins, itâs basically a win for Finland too without the headache of hosting that pricey contest next year. Talk about a win-win!
Letâs just hope the real winner is for once the one with the best song, not someone with a sneaky agenda up their sleeve!
Well to be fair I am sure most grandmothers were very confused by Nemoâs skirt⊠Linnea, theyâre very different generations and honestly, if you look back, their music was much better than today!!! It used to be about music, not about other âmessagesâ, activism etc. Classic stuff - love songs, things like that.
Thatâs very interesting. Itâs easy to look back and find great music in the past. However, it very rare that the âgreat music from the pastâ was also the most played on the radio or sold more albums in any given year.
So, itâs not fair when we compare the most popular from today with carefully selected stuff from the past. There was also a lot of skippable stuff decades ago.
About politics⊠a lot of music for the young is turning rebellion into money. Rebellion against the parents, societal norms, the âsystemâ, etc. Rock, hip-hop, whatever comes next, I doubt we could find something more political than this.
Maybe thatâs something to look at, which of the 37 songs contain some trace amounts of rebellion? Which ones embrace conformity?
