Eurovision 2025

Let’s say it’s good that we have a lot of variety and everyone can enjoy whatever they resonate with. Strictly speaking of Eurovision, in my opinion, it has very little to do with music lately. You can say it’s more about the show and the singers aligning themselves with whatever new idea(s) floats that year. Which may, or may not be relevant in say 10 years or more.
E.g. not sure I’d listen to Nemo today, but say Gigliola Cinquetti, whom my mom adored, yes, even I would listen to now. Or Celine Dion, even Abba! :innocent:

The one that always makes me laugh was the year the UK entered Cliff Richard singing Power To All Our Friends (1973). It was alright until he started doing these weird twizzly legged dance steps and everybody watching on the telly said “that’s it, he’s lost” (it came third). It still comes up on shows about Eurovision in Britain to this day

What bullshit this show is!

Tutta l’Italia, tutta l’Italiaaaaaa (& San Marino).

But you’re gonna watch it anyway, isn’t it? :joy:

Watched a bit last night. I caught the coffee guy from Estonia, including the dancers posing as club bouncers. The woman from Spain went full early 1990s. Then, put some attention to cooking.

When I returned to watch there was a montage about Switzerland. It was cringing, but a nice reminder of what TV is about. That was enough for the night, I returned to weird youtube next.

We’re lucky that Eurovision still reminds us of TV! :slightly_smiling_face:

Just saw the news that the song from Portugal passed to the final. This song is just like comfort food. I want to be in the balcony with a Bianco di Merlot right now.

Sounds like if at all one should watch it on BBC - at least one gets to laugh.

OH was disappointed Cyprus didn’t get through.

That’s the only good thing about it, the BBC commentary is hilarious.

Hey, ho! some entertainment - although not pop- in ESC… with a political message that was liked by everybody ;-). and…so real! (even today)

That train journey looked like great fun :slightly_smiling_face:

It didn’t win anything though! It was fun, that’s all. I’m glad you acknowledged, are you Russian by any chance? (I’ll love you anyway hehehe)
But you’re right, there were other political messages along the way, just not so much LGBTQ etc. things. I forgot about them, that’s the thing: it’s fun and great for one year, afterwards we rarely listen to them anymore.
We also had “Insieme: 1992” (I just checked, I wouldn’t have known the year - 1990) “Insieme, unite, unite, Europe” - that’s as political as it gets. And it won.

Yes Cherub, Moldova always beats Romania at music and show. It was special, I am glad it had such a great impact on Izzy. I wish she could have influenced the jury and give them the grand prize, why not their message eh.

@greenmount ha, ha! no, far way ! I come from the very south of Europe; but I lived and worked extensively in C&EE, a Region that I love, and have a lot of friends there. My Romanian and Moldovan friends loved that song – and btw, it won the ESC popular vote that year!
Having travel extensively on those day (& night) trains… i give faith sometimes (still) you find this type of adventures!

I’m glad my home country doesn’t participate this year so I will be spared by the embarrassment and the urge to go hide under a rock and come out when everything is gone and forgotten… :face_with_peeking_eye:

I caught a few minutes of the semi final last night.
That Australian entry was hilarious, totally encapsulated what Eurovision is all about.
Shame they didn’t qualify for the final.
