Not quite - you buy the ticket according to their terms and conditions. Not yours.
Seriously though, I'd have just turned up at the airport with a pre-printed ticket and if challenged would have said, "oops silly me". Unless you get a real shit, they'd likely let you through especially as it is within Schengen.
My understanding is that the name matching is for 1 primary reason: check you are the person travelling so that the airline doesn't have to send you back (at their cost) if you are not allowed entry to your destination.
So technically for domestic flights you shouldn't need to have ID. It is also why within Schengen some airports don't even match you to the ticket, they just want a valid ticket (e.g. Frankfurt airport you can scan yourself through security and the boarding gate without ever meeting a person that checks you vs. passport).
Happy to hear from more knowledgeable people on this point!
It doesn't matter the slighest to the airline whether you "keep your seat in protest". Not only is this an utterly childish reaction, but what disadvantage do you think they have from that? Exactly zero. Flights are overbooked anyway, you paid, the seat will go to someone else.
Grow up and next time read what you're writing and signing up for. And again for future reference: if you mess up and want someone else to fix that for you, you may want to be polite and friendly instead of attacking the other party which did exactly nothing wrong. We all mess up of course, but then we can also own up to it.
anyway, still that word, i have right to Keep my ticket since i have paid. i am forced that i cant take the seat, not my own wish. so, i not take responsiblity. what we should discuss is, if that is reasonsible, that Airline Company sell one ticket twice?
What you're doing is a name correction, not a name change. Different airlines have different policies regarding this, and Expedia will need to stick to them. According to the Swiss terms and conditions, you can correct up to two letters free of charge. In contrast, on Easyjet, there's no defined restriction: it just needs to be clear that it's an error and not a passenger change.
Vueling's terms and conditions aren't better though: they say you can only correct names within 24 hours of making the booking.
Huh? And why that? The booking was done through Expedia
they never tell me it cant be revised, always just tell me they will take care of it, even told, they have corrected my name. during my waiting, the Price goes up fast. it is surely stupid if i wait until last day, then buy a new ticket with high Price. of course, maybe that is their trick, to hang the passenger Long until last Minute, to buy expensive new ticket.
even if it is my fault that i type my Name incorrectly. they should tell me at first time when i ask, that it is impossible to revise Name, also unrefundable. the earlier i buy new ticket, the better Price i can get.
one more Information for all of you: book directly at Airline Website is even cheaper than travel Agent . maybe not always, but at least this time i realized it
yes, they(travel Agent, swiss airline) kick balls to each other , just hang customer there confused
so, better to book directly at Airline Website, no Chance to kick balls
However, in this case, it was the OP who made the mistake. Not the travel agent. It still confuses me that the OP doesn't seem to want to accept his/her leading part in this and the role of "Terms & Conditions Apply" in ticket purchases with airlines.
It's a bit like Donald who blames the leakers rather than trying to fix the problem that was leaked...
With your new ticket you might even sit next to that person
of course, we should follow the policy, but we have also rights to doubt, if the policy is not reasonable. it is another Topic. in this case, surely it is too late. just leave a question to all: if we should follow a unreasonable policy always?
anyhow, so far this case is closed. dont want to ruin my vacation due to this ticket... Airline Company has rights to Keep their policy, i have rights to Keep my ticket after paid. that is reasonable for both.
It isn't just about airlines - read the small print around things like MS Windows and Apple T&Cs and you'll see that you've pretty much absolved them of any crime/responsibility short of murder...
i just Keep my rights as consumer.
you paid something for several hundred, you just give it back to the store free and let them sell again?
I currently have family members struggling to get air tickets to attend a family funeral because so many people have bought alternative airline tickets after the Ryanair debarcle. Most of these people will cancel their tickets a day or two before travel, but the impact upon people who need to travel urgently is proving to be catastrophic and heartbreaking.
I gave you clear instructions on how to hopefully resolve this issue, which you didn't follow. Now, you're making a selfish stance that could impact upon another traveller. I really wish I hadn't bothered trying to help you.
The problem is that it's the first 4 letters of the surname that are wrong. That's crucial, and with airline security (rightly) tightening by the day, I'd be very concerned if any airline allowed someone to travel on a ticket where the name didn't match the name on the passport / ID.
now everything is done. i am looking Forward to my sunny vacation now
if anybody want to help Airline Company to sell one ticket twice to make unreasonable Profit, it is their Business . i respect.
i feel it is strange, if i was forced to give up my paid ticket free. if it causes inconvenience to other People. then it should be responsiblity of Airline Company. they should consider, if it is correct, not allowed to revise Name?
