French IBAN for Swiss resident.

Hello,

I am Swiss and resident in Switzerland and I need to have a bank account with French IBAN, does anybody knows if/how it is possible ?

Thank you all !

Go to France and open an account.

Tom

You need to have a French one, or one in SEPA / EUR? If it's the latter, open Revolut account.

Why do you need a French IBAN?

UBS is offering EURO accounts that are managed within the SEPA system (like it would be in Europe). The IBAN would still be starting with CHXXXXXX ...

it depends what you want to do...

I think you want to say : UBS is ripping off people with a Euro account.

Revolut

It will not be French but in the Euro zone (SEPA). In my knowledge French company can't refuse to deal with a SEPA account.

but don't forget to take some fresh milk with you.

Why do you say so? How are they ripping people off?

By the way, Postfinance even has current EUR accounts without any fees for incoming/outgoing transfers.

Ah yes, cash withdrawals incur charges, but we are talking about foreign currency, so this is expected.

In Postfinance, they only charge you if you withdraw EUR at the counter. If you withdraw from the ATM it is free of charge, you can withdraw a maximum of 4k per day and 20k per month per account, which is more than what a normal person would need. Wire transfers (in & out) are free with Postfinance, whereas with UBS incoming transfers are free and outgoing transfers have a 5 EUR (or maybe CHF???) charge (have not checked this yet though).

Since you are in Geneva you have France on three sides. So hop on a tram and look for a bank after crossing the border. The Swiss don’t care and the french don’t mind.

I need to pay for services in France (for example Internet provider SOSH) and they can only accept payments from an account in french bank. Therefore I need french IBAN.

That is exactly the problem - IBAN "CHXXXXXX" is not accepted by service companies in France

Revolut can not offer french IBAN for Swiss residents, I checked.

They do refuse. Example SOSH Internet provider.

I guess I will have to do this. I was just hoping to do everything via internet and have it for free, like basic Revolut account.

Check out wise.

Looking at SOSH they want you to sign a direct debit form which may be the reason you have to have a French account.

They say you can also pay with a credit card.

Check out Credit Agricole, they offer cross border account opening https://www.ca-nextbank.ch/en/en/ban…nd-cards.html#

Wise has a BE IBAN number, I tried to get a UK or NL IBAN and they can't help

Can you provide a link?

I have an Euro account with IBAN with Revolut.

Like I was saying before not French but in the SEPA system.
