Just before (may be 100 meters before) the customs while entering the Switzerland from France (near Geneva) there is a speed camera. I was driving around 65-70 km/h but I think the speed limit was 50 km/h. I am not sure if it flashed me or the driver in front of me, but I am wondering what is the speed limit there. The only thing I remember that there was a 30 km/h limit sign just after the camera. So, I suppose it was not 30 km/h. If it is, I am in big trouble. Actually, I am very careful about speed limits in general but this one was really like a trap.
Does anyone know what was the limit there? Anyone from Geneva is probably familiar with that specific camera.
I am talking about the customs on the highway while entering from France (A41) to Switzerland (A1). I am not even sure if that was a French or Swiss speed camera. What I am sure is that it was just before the Swiss customs.
I know where you mean and I'm pretty sure it's 30 although it could be 50. It's definitely a nasty one worth knowing about. If it only flashed once then you still might be ok.
We've thought we've been caught twice since it appeared a few months ago and nothing has appeared in the post so don't panic til you get the bill I say.
yep, I think cam is on the highway just before french douane (there is only one highway cross border post in Geneva area). It's quite active - 30 km/h. I saw several times people where flashed because they were not quick enough to slow down from 50/70. But it could be also the car in front of you which triggered photo session. One time I was almost sure that I was flashed but I was slow enough and its ended up that the car before me was breaking a limit.
[Bardonnex] I just checked the french forums & it's aimed at the 50km/h zone, despite being placed just inside the 30 zone. The trouble is that we pass it at about 20km/h every morning, due to the traffic jam. Then when you go through out of rush hour you forget it's there ... and BAM.
Do you know for sure it is 50kph zone? I got flashed yesterday. I know the 30kpm sign was still in front of me, so I assume I was in 50 zone. Some people seem to be saying it is 30kpm though. I don't know how fast I was going - I definitely slowed to 70 at the 70kpm sign. Not familiar with road and did not see 50 sign. I'm worried that if it is in 30 zone, I was over the limit by a lot.
Thanks for the advice. Just checked it out. Great tool. Still not sure though. I went through in the dark and I don't recognise it in daylight! Never been that way before.
I got hit by this too. 5 hours driving back from Paris on a Sunday night, 550kms of trouble-free motoring and then flashed just as we were coming home. Probably doing 60km/h. Any received a fine so far?
I'm sure I was doing at least 60kph. I remember slowing to 70 at the first sign and hopefully I had slowed a little more. Just didn't see the signs for 50/30. I was so busy trying to work out what lane I should be in as I'm unfamiliar with road. I hope it was in the 50 zone. If in the 30 zone, I could be in big trouble. I have done lots of searching on the internet about this speed camera and all the sites say it is in the 50 zone (including article in Tribune du Geneve), though these are all from last year. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the information. It seems certain it's 50 zone, so small fine and one point of my licence I think. Driving 26 years in 4 countries and this is my first speeding ticket. Guess I'm not doing too badly. Serves me right. I should have been driving a lot slower. Seems like I'm not the only one anyway.
Just got my fine - quick 4 working days- I was clocked at 63 but they give you benefit of the doubt of 5kph, therefore the speed they record is 58. Fine is 135 euros; but 90 if paid in 15 days. They say there will be removal of point(s) but annoyingly not how many. I've looked it up on internet and this offense means 1 point removed. Not too bad all and all. Can stop panicking now!
