I use a cpap, so that doesnt work.
I read a thing in The Guardian today about something called dark showering. You take a shower with the lights off in the bathroom before bed and it’s supposed to aid sleep.
By knocking you out when you slip on the wet tiles in the dark…
I can’t comment direct from experience but I read recently that applying a cool-pack (not freezing) to the forehead and around the face for a few mins can help you sleep. Apparently it tricks your brain into thinking it has hit the slight drop in core temperature necessary for sleep.
Last night was very bad, went to bed at 10 and didnt even make it till today.
Woke up at 11:30 with shivering and cramping legs, both of them, tossed and turned till 2:30.
Then the first cramp hit, both Achilles tendons locked tight, managed to get up only to trigger a double barreled inner thigh cramp.
Got back to bed managed almost to five untill the next one hit.
Alarm went off at 6:30 ending the night.
No wonder that I have been rough as a badgers arse all day.
Sounds like you need magnesium…OH had what seemed like a serious sciatica attack in the fall. When he got on a regular magnesium regime, it went away quickly and hasn’t returned. Might help, can’t hurt…
The night before that I had the most vivid and wierd dream and I cant get it out of my head.
I was back on Malta, the day started off great. Got up, went for a morning swim, then it was time to get my ass in gear and off to work. Took the bus going in the wrong direction and was unable to get the one going in the direction I wanted, tried to run but it was like running through treacle. The scene changed and I was to pick up the grandkids, only some harridan who was not my daughter refused to give them to me because I was late for work…
Remember all this is playing in full technicolor and dolby sensurosound.
I pleaded and begged, but this creature would not relent.
Beaten and broken I ran out of the door around a corner into another door and in a fury attacked this hag.
This is when I woke feeling angry and exhausted and in a full aggresive mode.
Now I dont believe that dreams have meaning, but dreams like this are disturbing.
Oh I take take high dosage magnesium.
Are you on any meds which might be dehydrating you, or depleting your electrolytes?
Cramps might be a sign to go and get checked out with the doctor.
No, all good in that aspect.
Has a medical professional told you what is causing the insomnia? Just asking as I was on a course at the end of last year where a participant had terrible insomnia and was seeing a doctor about it.
The thing is I can go for weeks and months without a problem, I go to bed and wake up in the morning without moving once.
Then out of the blue… BAM! No sleep for a week,
Jeez that’s awful. I had terrible insomnia when I was being treated for cancer years ago, had to take steroids before every chemo cycle. They were like taking speed and sent my brain into overdrive. I had to move into the spare room during that time and I’d decide to play relaxation music through my headphones in an attempt to calm things down, but a voice in my head would tell me to listen to The Stranglers at full blast!
It wasn’t unusual for me to be in the kitchen doing the ironing at 3am.
Ouch. Generall, I get up make a cuppa, slice of toast and rr, again.
Dammit, second cramp in an hour, this is goi g to be a long night.
Woke up, made myself a cup of coffee, check the internet, try again.
Been awake for an hour.
This is as good as it gets.
Largely debunked now. Magnesium can be associated with cramps if you have a significant deficit - but most people don’t and there is no proper evidence that high doses are any help.
But a recent study has shown the effectiveness of Vitamin K2:
You can get K2 at Galaxus.
Works for me.
Cleveland Clinic hedges its bets by saying it can help with sleep and restless leg syndrome…anyway, as I said, in correct dosage it can’t hurt. MIL/FIL left a lifetime supply in the house when they passed, so we’re using it.
