Gynecologist in Basel

Hello gals and guys if reading this,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good/reputable gyno in basel who preferrably speaks english.

Thanks for all your help

Jeanie

I go to Dr Goetschel and would recommend him. Right enough, this is the first time I'd ever consulted a gynae - it's only for birth control and I used to just get that at my family doctor.

He's at Freiestrasse 74, although the entrance door is actually on Barfussergasse, and the number is 061 272 54 54.

The receptionist-nurses generally speak English but I find they're happier to do so if I at least try some ropey German first.

Hope that helps.

Just spoke to my wife and she sees a Scottish physician whom she loves. Her name is Dr. Elizabeth Daly and she speaks both English and German. She is in Klein Basel on Grenzacherstrasse 62.

Thanks to you both.

Like you ScoobySue I also need to visit the gyno just for birth control. I used to get them free back in Portugal at the Health Center but I have learned here that you need a doctor's prescription.

I will be sure to get in touch with either of them and see what happens.

Once again thanks for your quick replys

Jeanie

You can try taking your current packet of pills to a pharmacy and say that you are on holidays and need a new packet - it worked for me.

Hey back to this question.

I took your advice MarieZug and I went into a pharmacy yesterday, said I was on holiday and they said they could sell me one box but they asked me for my name and birth date? Did the same happen to you? Is it possible they put me into their system? I was thinking of going into another pharmacy and trying the same thing but now I'm a little hesitant.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Jeanie

Hello all again,

I am in need again of a reputable/good gyno in the basel area who speaks English since my German is still non-existent. I tried making appointments with the two references already mentioned but I have a 3 month waiting time before I can get one. In the meantime from the 1st post till this one I was able to get my hands on more of the pill I was taking when I was back on holiday in Portugal but once again I am out and would love to do the right thing and see a doctor here. Does anyone else have any references?? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks again,

Jeanie

I see Dr. Claudine Landolt-Ritter who was recommended to me by my sister-in-law. When I first started seeing her in February I was able to get in pretty quickly...

Thanks for the reference will try calling on monday, hopefully I will get an appointment

Jeanie

After trying the service of several gynos in Basel, I go to Dr Daly Grandeau who is of Irish and Swiss decent and speaks fluent English. I find her services good and also her advice and her practice is convenient on Grenzacherstrasse. I attach a link with her contact details.

Just new to the Site and happened upon this. I find Dr Helene Denzler-Boesiger fantastic. Service provided in English, French, German and Italian.

So far I am very lucky I guess as all OB/GYN at kinderwunsch have been extraordinary with me.

I used to see Dr. Daly but stopped going because she wasn't very approachable at all.

I am pregnant and my new gyn is awesome - really really nice. Her name is Dr Nadine Hess http://www.muellerhess.com/ she is in Pratteln just outside Basel and right near train and tram.

I saw Dr Strub through my last pregnancy, she's on Theaterstrasse 4 so right in the middle of town. She speaks good English and is I would say kind of straight forward in her attitude - not very high on the touchy feely side but perfectly OK (for sure if all you want is a prescription for the pill or regular checkup).

The receptionist didn't speak English (although actually it's a long time since I was there) - but she was always very helpful and we managed to muddle through making appointments and doing pregnancy checks with my broken German and a lot of hand signals!

Stub has a partner too who she works with - I can't remember her name now but she also speaks good English (I saw her once when Dr. Strub was on holiday).

I would recommend any of the OB/GYN at the frauenspital. I have seen particularly Dr. Sartorius, he is the greatest, such a patient guy (with me really, it is commendable).

I would recommend

Dr.Suzanne Aebi

I have been to see her and she speaks good English and is professional and friendly.

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know to be careful with the doctors you go to. A colleague of mine recently found out that the OB/GYN she was seeing had been banned from practising because of malpractice. My colleague found out because she also had a problem with her. I guess going to a hospital (instead of a private practice) or consulting your insurance company before you choose a practitioner is a way of being safe.
