Heard of the P90x?

Hi everyone,

I've recently discovered the finess programme P90X by American trainer Tony Horton. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has heard of it or has done it before, as I would like to know if its worth getting the equipment instead of a gym membership (total cost of equipment max. 1500 CHF).

I've read a bunch of reviews online and I've only heard good things about it, so I'm wondering if all the hype is true. I would greatly appreciate it if I could get some advice and/or opinions. Thanks

Well, you first have to ask yourself. Do you want to be home alone and bored while you try to get yourself motivated to do a home work out or would you prefer to have contact (and make new friends) with people in a club whose encouragement will have you working out on a regular basis at your fullest capacity...?

If you cared to explain a little bit of what it involves maybe some of us might be able to figure out if it is worthwhile or not. There are a few personal trainers and sports scientists on the forum.

Yes, I have not only heard of it. I own the entire DVD set. It is amazing but a tough program and it does work, I also have the book with the dietary requirements but it is not really needed..well I did not need it personally. I jsut did my own thing and noticed significant changes. It is TOUGH though..real boot camp but if you are dedicated enough , you can make it. I have three kids, a hubby, ridiculous schedule but look forward to the one hour. Again, it is not for the "faint"..don't waste your money if you are not willing to keep going despite the rigor..Just my two cents! Good luck

Thanks a lot. This helps me. I'll be starting university in the Fall and finding a decent gym in the area with decent membership prices hasn't been the easist task, so this could prove to be a big money-saver.

Commitment isn't an issue, I'm already at the gym 6 times a week, so I've just been looking for something new to try out so I have that little bit of variation.

UniZH/ETH have their own gym and low student rates.

I'll be in Lucerne.. do you know of any good centres down there?

P90x is definitely a very good program and will challenge pretty much anyone. The equipment needed for it is pretty minimal. I live outside of Geneva and I know that if I had a gym membership that I had to drive 20 minutes to get to, I would be able to find plenty of excuses not to go. Plus I came across the entire video series on the net for free, so it was a very easy decision for me to try it out.

The program reminds me of the circuit training courses I used to do when I was in the military. I was a little surprised to find that I was not able to complete an entire 1 hour video the first time I tried it. Great for Cardio and toning.

I don't mean to be rude but the title of the thread explains it all. If I have to explain what the whole thing is I doubt you'll know much more about it than I do already. I was really looking for people who could relate from personal experience but thanks anyway.

We have all the DVD`s looked at them but not had a chance to do them. had a child and bla bla bla..

Anyway looks good and I dont think u need that much. Free weights, bands, bottom line, a good buy. Be prepared to totally change your eating habits. Good luck

while i have not completed the full 90-day program, i have done the workouts. it's very intense and demanding. don't know anyone who's done and not looked better or increased fitness after. even after a week or two on it, i lost lots.

you can preview/find the workouts online if you want to see what they are about. i think i saw them on youtube.

as tony says, "do your best and forget the rest!"

It works if you do everything it says for the 90 day challenge, including the meal plan but you have to be ok with limiting yourself to basically eating chicken and green beans for dinner everyday. Depends on how intense you choose to be!

I was a scholarship athlete in college and I thought it was really hard(a good workout)! I would however buy it on ebay USA or from the beachbody website: beachbody.com. Should be much cheaper than 1500chf but i'm not sure when you end up shipping everything. hope this helps

P90X is a solid workout plan if you are diligent. I don't follow the program format religioulsy over 90 days, but mix and match various 2-3videos a week to complement my other fitness routines. P90X will change your body, give you stronger balance, core strength and flexibility. I highly recommend the yoga dvd, along with the core and plyo dvd. If you complete the workouts diligently you will clearly notice a difference- but they are not easy workouts (other than cardio).......as tony says..you have to keep showing up!

I have tried similar program from the same company, called Insanity. Though, it's very challenging to perform those exercises. I still keep working on 'em. Should not be forgotten that the right eating regime is very important, if the target beside on improving the fitness is to lose weight.

Good luck and keep movin' !

P90x looks tough.

Though I haven't tried it myself, I believe if you stick to it, there is no way you won't get results.

The question is will you follow it or get bored after a few days?

It's always difficult to keep motivated and so esay tio find excuses to not do it. If you're confident you will, then go for it. Otherwise I would recommend you find a Personal Trainer or even a Bootcamp.

I love P-90X style work outs, and have had some friends who have had amazing success with it. But any workout where strength exercises are combined with cardiovascular is great. Fortunately, any equipment I bought was from the US, so outside of DVD's cost was minimal. I never tried following any of the diets, just go with eating healthy, so I can't give any feedback on that.

Insanity is more cardio oriented and doesn't need weights...I just started it to help lose weight.

How did you get on with P90X?

Where can I buy this in Switzerland or which website would you recommend using for ordering and then shipping to Switzerland?

Odd thread to necro at 4:30 in the morning...

04:30 for you 19:30 for me!!!
