We are designing a two bedroom apartment for the first time (and definitely not experts!). We want to create a space we’ll like, and could also work for others (in case we ever need to sell).
Now we’re stuck between two layouts for weeks now…
Which one do you feel works better? And why? Any feedback—big or small—would be super helpful! If both cost the same, which would you pick (A/B)?
I would choose the layout B to minimze the view in the app from entrance door, but would reorganise the rooms (bedrooms, shower, wc and third room (?) because of so many small areas not connected (e.g. shower and WC not connected,…)
I would go for layout B personally although the bathroom layout looks a bit confusing and there is only one shower compared to 2 in layout A. Why is there a door to the bathroom from the entrance hall?
Actually what is that space the behind the toilet? It appears to be a window rather than a door so I’m guessing the entrance door is the one opening outwards from the living area.
Neither of them are ideal in my opinion. I would keep the living area at the front as per design B but totally reconfigure the rear area.
Lots of practical experience here**…I agree with zuzi and curley…A has tons of wasted space and requires the second-bedroom denizen to traipse through the kitchen to get to the loo/bath. Weird little space in A with a chair and table in it, looking at the toi-toi door, and bedrooms sharing a wall? As Mutombo famously said, “Not in my house.”
**OH and I have built 4 single-family houses and renovated 5 (just putting finishing touches on one currently…)
Took me a moment too. A=on the bottom left. B=on the bottom right.
Which is strange, wouldn’t the entrance door to a flat be kind of fix in an appartment-house?
As an example, in the first one, if the top-left bedroom door is open and someone comes in the entrance, the neighbours or vistors could see that person in bed which is a no-no in layout design.
In our last apartment, I realised that the layout and door positions had really been cleverly planned to prevent awkward or embarrassing lines-of-sight.
Having people having to come through the kitchen to access the apartment (in B) is bad too - especially if kids come in with school bags and knock over something on the stove.
Agreed. I didn’t even check the windows. Now I count 4 in the entire flat - on of them in a toilet (which is great but only when I have enough anywhere else).
Is the front where the entrance is a glass wall?
For me either one has far too many walls. I’d get rid of them all (I see only one carrying one - is that a reason to worry? LOL - and start out new.
I do like entering into the kitchen. Mine is like that too and I see it more and more often. And I hate corridors, what a waste of space. Where they are unavoidable they gotta be ligned with cupboards. Corridors are not a problem in this flat and yet it looks a bit like a maze to me?
