Home schooling in Switzerland

Invaluable life lesson.

Being right is good. But sometimes pretending to not know is a more useful tool. Pick your battles, not a hill to die on, and the like

Evidence in Switzerland? Or just more “vibez and feelz”?

There were many schools making liberal use of this for example:

Luckily the dude was stopped, not so luckily by random neo-nazis. The sad thing is that we need white supremacists to tell those people they need to leave kids alone…

I don’t complain, but the way extreme leftists operate, there are probably X other similar events toned down (and behind closed doors).

DRAG QUEEN STORY TIME
«When you become the image of your own imagination, it’s the most powerful thing you could ever do.» (RuPaul)

DRAG QUEEN STORY TIME
In jeder Veranstaltung wird eine andere Drag Queen oder anderer Drag King auftreten.
Das Projekt ist eines der sieben Community Art Projekte 2019.

I mean if this isn’t an example that leftist ideology is absolute brain rot… then I don’t know. I can not fathom the amount of mental gymnastics people need to make to not think of this as absolutely gross, weird and definitely not something 10yo kids should be exposed to…

Where I live now, the chance for this to happen is close to 0 (rural AG), Baruch Hashem! So I probably don’t need to homeschool my future children.

a) it’s not a school, nor is it a teacher and b) the reason the sessions ended was because the person running it deemed it a safety risk to the organisers and the children.

It’s got nothing to do with schools. Schools aren’t even mentioned in the article. None of it relevant to home-schooling in Switzerland.

Nice to read that she received a cultural distinction from the city in 2023 for her contributions to the city’s cultural life, describing her as one of Zurich’s leading cultural mediators and activists, though.

Seems the kids were in more danger from the neo Nazis than anyone else. Plus ca change…

Just read the article. I did not find anything there about “public school system”. There was a mention of ZH Tanzhaus and Pestalozzi library, so people is free to go or not go.

So, what’s the link to home schooling or the public school system?

Someone, somewhere is doing something I don’t like, that’s WHY the public school system sucks. That’s weak sauce.

Go ahead, read my 1st sentence… many schools in Zurich used to send the kids there, it’s no secret

You guys are just ignorant. Teachers made very intense use of these (completely random and absolutely not indirectly sate funded) freak shows… Oh and ofc you could not go and then randomly get lower grades (ups), the same way the unis force gender neutral language down some people’s throats.

Either way, I would absolutely not expect either indirect state funding or a spontaneous “excursion” to explore one’s gender identity at 7 or 10. And you guys can pretend it’s irrelevant and whatever, to me it is not and I am very thankful this is over, even though I’d rather have their funding removed, rather than neo nazis threatening to shoot up the place.

So we’re back to vibez and feelz then. OK. :+1:

The school system is imperfect. I grew up in a more chaotic place and anyway had troubles with authority. I finished mandatory school with less than stellar grades, bachelor with mediocre grades and then no one cares. Only the indoctrinate young care about grades, no one else.

Of course, grades matter for the shortest path to university in Switzerland. But, there are other options. So, no big deal.

If you disagree with whatever, do what you think it’s best for you and your family. Any person with a gram of individuality and minimal aspirations to freedom will clash with the system in one way or another. It’s normal.

Is efficiency the main (let alone the only) measure for schools? You might be able to pack one morning’s (or afternoon’s) lessons into one hour, but you’d still need to babysit the children for the remaining 1-2-3 hours.

Left isn’t a priori bad (though they’re obviously wrong). The crucial point is the distinction between general stance versus indoctrination, the difference between how to think versus what to think.

That said, you don’t need perverts like drags who try to groom children to have a story hour. The two are completely orthogonal.

I thought you were above personal attacks. This is not the first time either.

A personal attack targets the character. Kindly demonstrate how any of what you quote does that.

And do keep in mind that “you’re ignorant” is very much distinct from e.g. “you’re stupid”. Everybody’s ignorant, it’s merely a question of the subject at hand.

Not a personal attack …? Perhaps …? Surely an elegant way to insinuate someone was indoctrinateed not in the way you would have preferred it …

Throwing stones, glass house, etc.

(Not that I particularly want to run to the defense of @Aargauer, but bejesus, listen to yourself!)

Post amended to preserve the sensibilities…

The sensibilities of the ignorant. Relating to my censored post of course.

And no amount of censorship improves any of your body parts.

Oh … that totally fixes your original comment of “Christ, you must have gone to some weird-ass school”. Your wink at the end of your comment really helped immensely in earnestly correcting amending your earlier statement …

With regard to

Perhaps — especially moderators, are you both not moderators? — maybe apply judgement evenly as it appears in the timeline (versus corrected amended statements a day or so later?) and man up for an apology if warranted?

A quiet backing out as displayed here so far works, too, of course. I was personally hoping for more from the moderation front. Probably it’s me, though. Expectations lowered as we speak.

After a couple beers the mind cleared.

Home-schooling > lower expenses for the municipality > lower municipal taxes >happy people.

So, screw my opinion about lack of skills in home-schooled kids and embrace happiness.

Indeed, but whose happiness? Home-school advocates come from a huge range of different motivations: Homeschooling - Wikipedia. It is strange when the big movement over the last millennium has been in getting general access to schools, not just from a privileged elite. Are there any stats on how many home-schooled kids want/choose to home school their own children?

Claiming someone went to a wierd ass school is certainly an attack on the school but I struggle to see that as a personal attack

Like most people I had to attend the nearest school regardless of normal or weird or whatever

I am grateful that women step up and keep the schools open.

Home schooling is only available for the privileged families that can survive without two wage earners.
