How do you clean your floor when you have a cat?

Hello folks,

I have a question regarding how to clean your floor when you have a cat. My apartment consists of an extensive tile floor and a smaller portion with some wood. I generally mop my floor with bleach. Knowing, that bleach isn't exactly the friendliest of all chemicals, I lock up the cat up in a room while I mop the floor. I let the floor dry up completely and the run over it with a dry rag, just to make sure that there is no residue left which could harm the cat.

I was wondering, how do you clean your floor and what cleaning detergent do you use in order to maintain the safety of your pet?

Thank you in advance for all serious replies.

Hi LIB,

I use vinegar. Portion of vinegar mixed with water. It is a good cleaner and safe for pets, kids and asthma sufferer...

..but vinegar stinks. Could I possibly mix in some lemon/lime?

you can thank me later.

You don't know my cat..she doesn't wear anything unless it's Gucci.

Just like her owner.

As far as possible I use products from Held (available in most Drogerien). Tile floors get wet-cleaned at least once a week (kitchen, bathroom, loos) or, in the kitchen, as need be after an intense bout of cooking . Wood floors get special treatment every 2 - 3 weeks with dedicated parkett flooring product.

You don't need to use bleach. Any floor cleaner will suffice, Migros, Coop, Aldi, Lidl all have their own brands.

..but don't those cleaners contain strong chemicals as well?

Oh boy... this is going to get ugly ...

I use a steamer on all tiled areas - but NOT wood . It will destroy wooden floors...

OK lets look at this at a serious level ( ya, right )

How long have you had the cat ( C )

How long have you had this floor ( F )

Length of time you have been cleaning said floor ( T )

now C.(F/T) =

9 ( lives? )

Yeah, but she's a second hand cat...and the meter broke, so I don't really know how many lives she's used up already.

i make a mixture using white vinegar, warm water and i put some drops of lavendar oil into it to cut the vinegar smell. you could add what ever kind of oil you want, though

You mean these essence oils that you drip into water over a candle?

I strap the cat to the mop.

Tom

yes but do you wet or dry mop?

Vinegar is a great natural cleaner, diluted in water it doesn't really smell and any smell it does have goes after a few minutes. Migros also sell a range of eco cleaners derived from plants, I think they're called Migros Plus oeco power and have a butterfly on the packaging. They do a floor cleaner and it smells of lemons. One cap full in a bucket of water is all you need.

Wet.

Tom

Happiness is a wet ...

no nevermind, not going down that road.
