already second year our apartment is getting to +27'C in Living room and +25'C in Bedroom during summer even if all windows and shades are closed, even if outside temperature can be +18, our apartment is not getting cooler.
We try to ope windows at night, it can become a bit cooler, but then during they day gets hot.
We don't have A/C, but i think above temperature is way too hot, and A/C installation (in 4 room) will cost around 12k CHF (got offer from local company).
Do you know if there is a law or standards for houses that regulates internal average temperature?
As the landlord and administration claim that temperature is ok and if i want i should install A/C.
I don't think there is any law which says your apartment has to be kept below a maximum temperature.
Have you tried leaving a window open a little bit on the side of the house which is mostly shaded? It will let a bit of airflow in without necessarily heating it up any more.
Also, buy a couple of standing fans to keep the air moving.
You can get a basic portable air conditioner for a couple of hundred francs which might take the edge off the heat.
Other than that, just keep lots of beer in the fridge...
I'm not aware of any regulations regarding heat - you'll just have to manage the situation for yourself. It sounds like you're doing the right thing already: shutters and windows closed during the day, thrown open during the night (but closed at dawn, before the sun peeks above the mountains). Maybe install a couple of fans (Vornado fans are brilliant), put a bowl of water in front of each. Sit with your feet in a bucket of cold water. Go out and sit under a tree. If you have a car, go for a drive - otherwise, quite a lot of modern buses have air conditioning.
The good weather will pass soon enough. Enjoy it while you can.
We live in a house. Top floor gets up to about 29c by the end of the day in high summer (which btw this is not!!) and I can only get it down to about 22c again by morning. Lower floors aren't nearly so bad, 26 or so in the daytime and I can bring them down to whatever the outside temp is overnight.
That is with me very diligently following the house-cooling routines shown me by a Swiss housewife. Involves a lot of sitting indoors with the blinds drawn and not a breath of fresh air anywhere but one summer I tried following my own inclinations and kept windows open in the hope of getting a breeze through... and the indoor temperatures soared to 30-odd. Turns out the Swiss way really does work better, for this sort of house in this sort of climate.
i guess will need to continue fighting with administration, i am pretty sure there are some pipes that are heating the apartments, no other explanation... as my neighbors' apartment is not getting above +24'C...
OP, not much more you can do except as has already been said, get some fans to move the air and keep windows open at opposite sides of the flat to keep air moving.
keeping the windows closed won't help. try opening the windows and lowering shades during the day. also a fan can help (those tall thin ones move a lot of air and are quiet).
i used to live in lugano in the top floor of an old villa with no air con and it got really hot in summer and held heat even when cooler outside. a fan, open windows and lowered shutters helped. took me a while to figure out the lowered shutters bit.
getting used to being sweaty also helps
i now live just 150m above melide and its incredible the difference. always a cooling breeze. inside always cooler than outside. no need for aircon at all.
We still sleep with down comforters. The wall in our medieval building are so thick it never really heats up, it is wonderful in the summer. I live in a fridge. There is a cool wind from the lake, too - check the direction of your windows and the wind, OP. Not all winds are created equal, temp wise.
Yes, trying to get blueprint of the building and find all heating pipes etc, becoming slowly architect...
Also from my kitchen sink cold water is not immediately cold, it takes 5-10 seconds before it gets cold, one more argument for heating pipes, which are OFF.
nope, building is not dark, i live on ground floor
kitchen is +27, bathroom is +24, but in bathroom cold water is immediately cold.
Never had +27 in living room, i just wanted to check if there is a law that regulates that building should be somehow resistant to heat and keep +24 as average
