Indian restaurants in Bern

Hi, I am going with my friend to Bern and I would like to have lunch at some Indian restaurant there. Does anyone know a good one (preferably with not very spicy food)?

I have never been there but am informed by relatives that these two are recommendable

In Biel been to those and they are good to very good,Rotihaus has the downside that there are not many parking spaces and it's on a busy road, so not enjoyable outside :-( But inside it's got a good AC

there are two more indian places in Biel, but I haven't tested them yet

thanx a lot for the info, but the prices seem to be on the higher side even for Swiss standards..maybe I'll treat her at my home :P

they actually are very high, usually when i spend a evening out with friends and really want to indulge myself then I need to calculate between 50 and 70 francs for my menu

..i think i'll buy some packaged Indian food rather..I had them two or three times, they are quite good

Maharaja Palace in Bern, very central, just off of the Hirschengräben.

Punkt in the Altstadt (Rathausgasse) is a favourite for lunch, more Asian but does a decent curry.

hope that helps.

There is a small place with Indian food to go located on Länggassstrasse, between the post office and the bus stop "Uni Tobler". Didn't try it yet but looks nice and not expensive...

You have to try "The Curry Pot" the best in Bern...by far!!!

There's a pretty good Indian downstairs in the Markthalle. Don't recall the name, but I can recommend it personally. Go down the main staircase, hang a 180 right and it's in the corner.

that would be the South Indian place...right?

More info on "The Curry Pot" please.................address.....etc.

Ta!

Sorry i meant the Curry House....

Enjoy....

I have been to most of these mentioned here.

None of the Indians in Bern are amazing, and typically for Indian restaurants worldwide - the prices are extremely elastic due to supply. UK is of course amazing for Indians, both price and quality.

The dishes here are usually less varied and blander to suit the less (ehem)'adventurous' of customers.

But if you can't resist:

http://www.curryhouse.ch/ OK for take-aways.

http://www.akul.ch/home.htm actually ran by a Sri Lankan - is a bit different, but is good.

http://www.mahamaya.ch/html/mahamaya_e.html is good enough.

Markthalle has 2 places, a ' South Indian ' and a more standard one ' Way to India ‎' I think. Both fine, neither spectactular. Prefer the 'South India'.

Have heard bad things about 'Maharaja Palace‎‎' (which is very central) so will never try that one.

Of all the Indian restaurants I have visited, Curry house in Lorryplatz is the best..

Many varieties and they are really good stuff ..Cheap compared to all other restaurants..

Once you can try out this...

I find the quality and the choices of indian restaurants in bern very average.

If you have a car, it's much better to drive to Utzendorf (25km from bern) and go to the Restaurant Sitar. Great place. The buffet on week-end is amazing.

Here is the link: http://sitar.ch/

As a crazy curry fan and having not been here long (2 months) we got a recommendation to go to A Way to India which is downstairs in the Markthalle (as was mentioned).

It's a different type of curry compared to the UK tastes as if its come from a pot of curry then been mixed with some fresh herbs and spices. Would go again, but am going to try them all.

Went to the Sitar saturday night - it was rubbish. Won't be going there again.

Hi All,

AS i have stated in a previous post, the best tasting food is CurryHouse without a doubt.

If you have tired it let me know what you think, there is no other place that i have been to in Bern that is as good, and i have been here for 3 years!

K...

I would recommed you to try Maharaja palace

I personally dont think its what it should be in that place, being Indian i kinda got a taste for what and how a dish should be cooked..and Curry House do wonders....
