Some say "Nörgeln ist des Deutschen Lust" ("grumbling is the germans' delight") though some say this applies even more markedly to the german swiss.
I've lived this situation many times, the same if close to or far from housing or cars, done 100% correctly or not, before or on August 1st. The only way to avoid the scolding is burn your fireworks in the established place (every town has its own), on August 1st, together with all the rest of the crowd. Any individual behaviour (time or place deviation) may be risky if you hate conflict.
It is of course much more relaxed in the french and italian Switzerland.
