iPhone application recommendations

Simcity is now available for download at 11CHF, good reviews so far from what I can tell.

Couldn't get it to work either.

Tramdroid: awesome app for those zurich lovers! Gives up to date tram details, check it out.

Has anyone tried any of the apps regarding learning german? I've got a couple of the free ones,lastminute.com german and the language translator by codesign. There are some ok podcast- Flavor of German and Stephan Wiesner learn german for free. I'm now ready to shell out a few CHF and was wonder if any one could recommend a app they are using. Thanks.

Jailbroke using quickpwn 2.2 the other day, in order to install an app I decided I couldn't do without:

Intelliscreen (USD9, I think) - turns the unlock screen into a "today" round up, similar to Windows mobile (the ONLY thing I miss since switching from WM6). Highly configurable to include calendar appointments, weather, RSS feeds etc.

Also installed Cycorder (free, requires jailbreak), which turns the iphones static camera into a video camera, with surprsingly reasonable quality.

Quickpwn jailbreak 2.2 is reasonably straightforward if you unload the iphone's applications first and then reinstall them via sync after jailbreak. It doesn't seem to work otherwise, if you have a lot of apps.

SB

i need an app to find free hotspots, zh, ch...best would be europe/worldwide.

found wifinder today. lets see hows working...

I hate to quote myself, but anyone who regularly uses public transport in zurich should definitely check out tramdroid... its seriously cool.

For me, it is one of the most fluent and well designed apps of the iphone... and it is specifically for zurich public transport!!!

Brilliant.

Just got the SwissSnow app, comprehensive breakdown of snow reports at all Swiss resorts, even the small ones.

Seems to have every possible stat related to snow possible, and has a favourites function too, to quickly access your local ones.

Here are my favorite iPhone apps:

SBB Timetable: Train, Tram, Bus schedules, great!

AP Mobile News: World News on your iPhone

Fring: MSN, Skype, GTalk all in one app

Express: Your daily horoscope

FlyCast: Thousands of radio stations, works with Wi-Fi connection

Currency: Great to convert CHF to $, euros and many other currencies

Live Poker: Play online FREE, lots of fun.

My favourite iPhone app by far TypeDrawing

Katamari Damacy for the iPhone! The only game i have on my phone (which includes over a page of other games) that I would actually want to play other then to just kill time.

Cult Japanese game originally on PS2.

For tenis fans, the Winbledon Application is quite nice, to check live the results and discuss with friends about the next plays.

Navigon Mobile Navigator .

it turns your iPhone 3G or 3Gs to fully functional navigation device.

It costs 105 CHF for full Europe or 65 CHF for Region Germany , Switzerland and Austria.

I tried over the weekend for my trip to France/Nancy and it was great.

It even made me buy a car holder for my iphone.

Easy to use.

BBC Reader caches the entire BBC News website onto your iphone for offline viewing (free)

WifiTrack scans the airwaves for free and available wifi access points and allows you to connect from within the program (CHF 1)

Tramdroid is now known as Wemlin. I can also recommend this app for Zurich public transit - it is fantastic. Also, seems to be able to use some signal from the tram stops or trains instead of wifi - 'locate me' always works even without 3g or wifi.

two more free ones I enjoy:

Skype: I find the sound quality better than fring, but lack of landscape typing is a minus

Radio Paradise: Stream from www.radioparadise.com - listener supported radio that is generally an excellent mix.

third times a charm. anyone who live in zurich and regularly uses public transport should check this out. i would say its my favourite app. just great. helps me know where i am, what trams and buses are coming, and how long it will take to get to where i want to go.

I agree with this, the Skype app is top class.
