It's November and time to head for the mountains

Just back from a breathtaking day driving over the Susten, Grimsel and Furka. The mountains are beckoning this time of year. No crowds, little traffic but the restaurants are closed.

Despite what people may say about dreary November (and those in and under the fog can attest to that), this is the time to be in the mountains. It’s like a wonder drug for the soul.

Precisely why we relocated from the lake. We’re going on our 3rd week of sparkling sunshine and warm day temps.

Photos?

The flyers are out today. Sorry I can’t give any more panoramic pictures, but if I did everyone would immediately recognise the peaks.

Grr. Each photo is too large. I made a cool reel for insta. Wish I could upload it here. Any tips?

BelgianMum had the same problem on the Halloween thread…didn’t sound like she was gonna bother finding out how to post larger files.

I am not sure what to do either.

Contact @Phil_MCR ? Perhaps some file size limit is in effect.

good topic, I actually wonder if there’s a nice place to live all year round but still well connected with the world (i.e. can effortlessly go to Zurich).

I had the impression that Schwyz, up above the lake shore would be above the fog, but no, big no, I even suspect I have more fog here than down there upon the lake.

I guess we have to look at 2000 meters above sea level to avoid the spring/autumn fog?

Albis and Hirzel are both higher than Schwyz. But still under 1000.

2000 might be a bit far to commute

or rather a bit high to commute

honestly, I was considering buying something in Rigi, but yeah, when you think about winter days, with slippy roads…

Down here in the foggy flat lands  I got cold after 3 hours, now back home and waiting for the wine to warm up a bit

Still under 2000.
You could always take the cogwheel railway, pretty safe.

A few facts about fog. I don’t think you would want to live at 2000m to avoid fog. Being at 800-1000m should be safe for most of the time, although not enough today.

In 11 years, the only place we lived in CH (out of NE, OW, SG, AI) that was relatively fog-free was Engelberg. Cog train there, too. Wonderful!

Look east of Lachen: the Linth-Kanal, Walensee, etc, no elevation necessary. Chur and Sargans make up the low lieing sunny corner but are probably a bit too far off.

The forecast for Ziegelbrücke predicts almost 50 hours sunshine for the coming 7 days vs less than 30 für Zürich, see Meteonews. And if you’re into skiing it gets bonus points for its proximity to the Flumsi, Pizol, etc.

That’s right: Amden! Almost always in th sun.
Sichuan could buy a Chalet. They’re made of wood though. Always have been. Apart from the cellar.

Pretty cool pictures of Brünigpass and the fog from OW swapping over into Haslital today.

How big are they? Default max size is 4MB. I bumped it up to 6MB.
