IVF information / clinics in Switzerland

Dear Ladies,

Has anyone had an experience with Dr. med. Peter Fehr.?

I would like some as well as I'm looking for a reputable ivf clinic in zurich

Hello ladies,

My husband and I just completed our first IVF treatment at the Unispital in Zurich. I will find out if it has worked on Wednesday (fingers crossed). Overall it was a good experience but I do think they lacked the "personal touch" that maybe a private clinic would/could provide. The cost was approx 3500CHF (although we have not received the bill yet) and that includes the meds.

I am happy to share any info with anyone who needs it.

Shannon

Hi

Here's websites for 2 clinics

http://gynart.ch

http://www.singer.ch

I have to second the Michael Singer suggestion. Due to the expertise of him and Peter Fehr, I now have 2 little girls to wake me up at the crack of dawn each day

Shannon, good luck and strong nerves! I remember the agony of the 2 week wait. I don't know of anything as stressful!

Dr.Singer is professional and kind. I did not use him for IVF but another fertility related issue and was extremley satisified with the outcome.

I went to Gynart and tried 3 times and got pregnant finally on the last try but then had a miscarriage. I then went to the US to have it done and now have twins from the first try. The technology is not as good in Switzerland as in America. Here they use 2 day old embryos and in the USA they used 5 day old. The older the embryos are, the better idea you have of the health/condition of the embryo.

Good luck

My partner and I are undergoing IVF treatment at the moment and have to wait 12 months before we can undergo the second cycle.

I am a NZ/Swiss citizen my Mrs is a New Zeland citizen. What are the funding options for Switzerland? Is IVF government funded like it is in New Zealand?

Thanks in advance

Hi

IVF/ISCI is completely self funded in Switzerland - you get no help at all with paying for this treatment - an average ICSI cycle is about 9000CHF

Hi All,

Just to let u know, me and my husband were trying to concieve for over 3 years and one of the Gynac suggested Zurich Hospital. I could have concieved by IUI, as I did one before( but unfortunately had to be terminated as the fetus was not good), the doctors at the zurich hospital were very adamant for ICSI (which is not covered by insurance). Dr. Leeners did my final treatment, but she is quite harsh and rude and ended me being pregnant with ectopic pregnancy. We strongly suggest not to go to the zurich hospital for the following reasons

1. Different doctors will see you each time you go, so there is no bonding with the doctor.

2. They will not ask for your views, but will impose thier decision on you.

3. And if any thing goes wrong, nobody takes the responsibility as there is no one doctor treating you.

4. Even if the money for the treatment like IVF/ICSI is less, we suggest going to private gynacologist as he will know everything what is going on with you.

You don't have to explain everytime about your history and you don't fear if the new doctor would know everything you told in your first visit.

As far a I know neither IVF nor ISCI are covered by insurance in Switzerland.

My experience was quite different at the Unispital & Dr. Leeners and I highly recommend their repro endocrinology dept to anyone with fertility issues. I do agree with one of Krishna's points regarding seeing several doctors at the beginning stages of the treatment but once they actually start with the IVF or ISCI you are only seen by one doctor. Dr. Leeners was my doctor and she was quite good. I found her to be extremely thorough and quite caring. My husband and I were involved in all decisions and anything that was recommended by Dr. Leeners re. treatment was done so with my best interest & health in mind.

I am very happy to say that I am in the 35th week of my pregnancy and will deliver the baby at the Unispital!

Dear Shannon ...maybe u were lucky with Unispital. I have been taking treatment since last 2 year at Unispital. Inspite of me concieving with IUI at first time, they were quite adamant at performing ICSI, which was not understandable.

Even if it is quite cheap for IVF at the hospital .........I would still recommend going to a private gynac.

Krishna - most clinics over here perform ICSI rather than IVF and this is getting to be the case in the UK too. ICSI was first used for couples with a male factor issue but as ICSI is much more successful than IVF regardless of the fertility issue it is now becoming more the standard practice. I was glad to have had ICSI as standard over IVF

Regarding clinics and treatment I can highly recommend Dr Singer if you prefer a more personal approach and I am happily in my 19th week of pregnancy as a result of this wonderful man

Nicky

Dear Nicky- Thanks for the information.

I know that ICSI has more success than IVF, but in my case it was not required, but it was imposed on us in the Unispital. When we said that Can we try IUI, one of the doctors at Unispital was very rude and told us that we were wasting her time and public and insurance money.

I am already going to Doctor Singer as well and I hope for the best. I already feel much better and feel taken care of. I must have known him 2 years back so that I would not have gone through all the turmoil which I went through in the Unispital.

Krishna will Dr Singer give you IUI first? I had a round of IUI but then it was pointless in my situation but you do get I think 3 free goes of IUI on basic health insurance over here. Dr Lang - Dr Singers colleague was my initial gyne (before they joined forces) and i had my IUI treatment with him so it might be worth asking Dr Singer if its an option now they work together

Nicky - Yes At Dr Singers clinic they suggested IUI for first few months. Yes after every pregnancy 3 tries of IUI are covered by insurance.

Hi,

Just a note about IUI. It usually is a waste of time so if you are older and in a hurry to get pregnant, you should do some research to determine if you prefer to skip this method (the rate of pregnancy is the same for normal intercourse!) and go straight to IVF/ICSI. I, personally, after doing tons of research realize that the rates aren't any higher so I would tell people to forget about IUI.

Good luck!

...a little bit late, but for the case, someone still reads this thread...:

I tried ICSI with Dr Singer in November 2009. It was my 4th ICSI and the first with Dr Singer.

No luck with this doctor. I will be looking for a luck with other less expensive doctors

My overall impression was good, I think he was professional but restricted swiss rules do NOT let doctors act risky.

So as soon as I ll find my luck I ll report promptly )

Does anyone know if IUI with donors sperm is paid by the local insuarance?

I am currently undergoing my IVF treatment with Dr. Michael Haberle of Gyn ART. This is my first experience with IVF and am a lil nervous. Underwent my Follicle extraction yesterday of which 6 have fertilized. 3 will be transfered in couple of days. My journey through dealing with infertility has lasted 1.5 yrs. Starting with harmonal checks, checks of my husband with andrologist. I would recommend men to undergo CASA (Computer aided semen analysis) which is more advanced analysis opposed to simple sperm count thing which is normally done. I have PCOS.

Then 6 months with Clomid/Serphene... no success. I took a break for 3 months. Doc then did laproscopy to find that i have mild endometriosis. This was treated with GnRH agonist harmone therapy for 4 months after which now I am having my IVF. I am already anxious to know the result... but keeping fingers crossed.
