IVF information / clinics in Switzerland

Wishing you lots of luck for transfer and your 2 week wait, don't go too crazy (hard not to )

wishing you the best too and follow Nicky;s advice do not go crazy for those 2 weeks, although it is easier said than done! *hugs*

Wish you all the very best. To make you more confident, I will give you brief on my IVF journey:

I was diagnosed to have both endometriosis and adenomyosis (at age of 16 ). I previously had 2 failed ivf cycles with one of the doctors in Switzerland. Last year, I contacted Dr. Singer who was very understanding. He performed a laparoscopy to remove endometriosis then I was on zoladex for 3 months. I went through IVF in early march and now I am 9 week pregnant Though it looked like endless wait, it was worth. My advice for you would be meet friends who dont know about your treatment that would help you to divert your mind.

Congratulations, I have a 6 month old Dr Singer baby

Thank you Nicky. I hope everything goes fine.

Hello, Looking for some advice with regards to clinics/doctors in the Geneve area?

In brief I have been trying to concieve for nearly 8yrs (I am 30), PCOS, tube on left not in great condition. NEVER received any medical treatment in the UK, advice was you are young give it time.....! Anywho, moved to Grenoble 2yrs ago and started seeing a lovely doctor (at this point no knowledge about the tubes as UK specialist advised all fine...)

First thing my french doctor did was send me for a Hystropingography which showed the damage- due to these results, he advised my only option would be IVF.

We have now moved to Haute-Savoie but would really really like to start seeing someone in Geneve regarding this matter. Now, I know that my medical insurance does not cover IVF, but does anyone know what exactly your cover does, well, cover?

I also need to loose weight before I can proceed with any IVF treatment so I am looking for a Dietician if anyone has any recommendations?

Basically any information, BMI requirements, specialist recommendations, would be greatly appreciated

xxx

This depends on each individual case. The various methods are designed to provide the best possible solution to the couple. IUI optimizes the quality of sperm and sometimes that's just more than enough. In addition IUI is paid by the health insurance, whereas the other methods are not, leaving open a bill starting at 5000 with an open end. In Switzerland the "normal" path is: you try conceiving for 6 months, then IUI (3x are paid), the comes the rest.

jbbkt your health insurance wont cover any IVF costs bar maybe one ultra sound which they can put down as general gynecological procedures

Great idea to lose weight but just so you know I was ober BMI 30 when I finally conceived - my doc advised me to get healthier and lose weight but didn't advise me to reach a certain target, after losing weight and getting fit the 3rd attempt worked so i would say just get healthy to lose weight but don't feel you have to aim to be under 30bmi just losing 5 to 10kilo puts your body in a healthier state my doc told me

Good luck - sorry can't help on the Geneva front

Wow, that was some super quick replies! Thanks.

When I originally started seeing the specialist in France, he said that we were going to go straight in with IUI, but I just had to go for some routine blood tests and the hystropingography (just to confirm all ok with tubes...) and unfortunately the scan did not confirm what the UK specialist had advised me

When I went back to see my French specialist he said that IUI was now not possible and IVF was my only option, which, as you can imagine I was very upset as I had hoped and prayed, like many others, that it would not need to go this far. I am over weight, this is quite clear to me and has been for some time. He said that although the 'guideline' recommendation was a BMI no higher than 40 in France, he would like me to be around 35.

You are completely right, after I lost an intial 5kg, my periods returned (with a vengance), coincidence or not lol.

It is going to take me some time to slowly and healthily reach the target 'they' desire, I am just concerned that while I am taking my time, my chances are ebbing away... Trying to stay positive after 8/9yrs is becoming very difficult.

The only treatment I have ever received regarding fertility was a prescription for Metformin and Folic acid, and advice to loose weight.

I am now worried with moving again, will I have to start all over again? Blood tests, scans and hystropingography (which I never ever want to have again!!) If so, am I covered for these costs? Am I covered for consultation costs...?

I have been previously advised that the swiss are quite concerned about their figures and sucess rates and would probably not accept someone overweight or on the higher end of the BMI

I dont know. I dont know what the best thing to do is...

Thanks everyone for your kind support. I had the embryo transfer done today. 6 of my eggs got fertilized of which 3 have been frozen. Of the 3 left outside 2 have multiplied their cells normally while the 3rd underwent a lot of fragmentation. Hence the doc just put in the first two. Those who have already undergone the IVF process, could you please advice me on the dos and donts... Thanks a lot.

Oh best wishes to you! *hugs*

Best of luck, try not to stress, and let yourself relax.

I echo rrs (shock horror) just relax, there is nothing you can do but carry on as normal minus the usual bad habits

But in all honesty no matter how many times people say relax you wont, I know this because I have been there and it's 2 weeks of hell

jbbkt i had 3 rounds of IVF with a BMI over 30 (under 35) I was never told I would be refused treatment due to my weight. Remember each patient having IVF for a clinic here is money in their pockets, why would they turn you away?

One thing to note is they have different laws here with regards to freezing embryos and they don't do blastocysts

@jbbkt I recently came to know that all costs till you start your IVF treatment will be covered by your basic insurance. I dont think you need to undergo all tests once again as long as you have reports from previous treatment. There is no rule that you have to undergo IUI treatment before you start IVF. I never went through IUI and was below 30 yrs.

My advice would be meet the doctor right away. They will take few months to start the actual treatment(around 3 to 6 months). In the mean time, you can continue with weight loss program.

I wish you good luck in finding a good doctor.

@pnmaddy, try to relax and dont browse through infertility forums. Just call your clinic if you have any doubts. Good luck!!

Great advice for anyone with a health issue. Forums can be great support, but lots of times you get people with complaints and problems in other health systems. When you're worried, may not be the best place for info.

I wish you great success with this! Hope it all works out well.

Thanks again for all the information

I'm just about to move to Zurich with our 1 year old. After 7 years of trying and 5 years of infertility treatment she was a natural pregnancy (well, I was on metformin) after one failed IVF and two failed attempts at frozen embryos....

so even when it seems there is no hope, miracles can happen!

Also, those with experience with IVF in Zurich - do the doctors speak English? My German is non-existent at the moment, French is so-so...

I can't speak for those specific doctors, but my experience within the medical industry is that most doctors in Switzerland speak English, and almost all specialists do -- because so much of their technical reading (to keep their knowledge current) is in English.

Yes as 22 yards says they all speak English as a lot of their training and literature is in English - all the doctors I saw spoke fluent English

"one failed IVF and two failed attempts at frozen embryos...." scares me.... i am in my 14 day wait period.... did u have any further complications... i mean with infertility?
