IVF information / clinics in Switzerland

If aggressive IVF means aggressive (high) stimulation it may also end up with high amount but very poor quality of eggs (oocytes). The best would be 8-10 oocytes per IVF cycle.

Australia is know to be leading country in IVF.

But in Europe - Poland and Hungary are countries where you receive treatment from world class experts. Both countries work with the newest techniques - not all are available in CH, new clinics and competitive prices and almost everyone speaks English.

Plus in Poland there is UEFA this year !!! Another good excuse to take off from work

Hy there,

i've had treatment at Dr. Singer too - i had insem though and after 3 tries it worked. i'm now 5 months pregnant with twins.

I can highly recommend him and his team, they take their time.

btw - insem is payed for in switzerland for 3 tries!

if you have questions do pm me.

Thanks for the info. It does sound like i am in good hands then!

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

take care

Stella

Just to add I had Dr Singer too, I had various treatments and now have a six month old son. Good luck!

Thank you so much for responding to my message. I am feeling very positive about this cycle.

fingers cross ladies!

Hi, for anyone else who is trying to conceive, I can highly recommend Dr Mock in Geneva. I now have little three year old which I conceived through IUI at 43. I did get pregnant first time, but lost it and then conceived on the third time. I was amazed.

Does anyone know something about Dr. Spira, in Basel? Did anyone try it? would you suggest it? the IVF takes place in Viollier clinic, do you know it?

Can you tell me, if an IVF is successful, is one supposed to go during the pregnancy to the fertility clinic or to "normal" gyn?

We live in Zug and after seeing several specialists for our first IVF (last autumn) we were told to go to Austria (Bregenz) as the Austria law keeps the embryo for up to 5 days compared to 2 days here in Switzerland. This allows for a better quality choice; we were told this would increase our chances since they're v low (am 41 with low AMH and a story of recurrent miscarriages). The drive is 1h45 and we had to go 3 times- the IVF clinic has a partnership with Zug Kanton Spital so I go there for all the scans and to generally follow the cycle. This time since it's my second IVF and I have met the doctors I'll only have to go to Bregenz for egg retrieval and transfer which is great.

Best of luck!

Hi, I am currently going to Fiore in St. Gallen and I can highly recomend them. In Zurich, best place to go is the University Clinic, but long waiting list. Tip: Always look for the best lab and the best biologist. They are the ones who make the difference. Best of luck!

I have stimulated at both a clinic in the US and here at GynART. I would make the following observations:

1- Lab is critical, huge advantage US clinic, where there is also no wait time

2- Laws are more favorable in the US, such as culturing all embryos to day five, and PGD is allowed in most states

3- More customized protocols in the US. They only used menopur, for instance, did not check hormone levels at all. More thorough monitoring MIGHT have given us an answer why only one follicle responded in one IUI cycle, or may have indicated waiting was advantageous.

4- The cost is about one third to one half of that in the US.

Not every clinic in the US is better, but there are some that are just a cut above. I have only nice things to say about the doctors themselves in GynART. It is their protocols that leave me a bit skeptical. Maybe a lot skeptical.

PM me if you have specific questions; I will be happy to share. I have done a lot of homework on the clinics in the US.

It is a test on your patience, but it's worth all the tests and the time it takes. I thought it was never going to happen but the patience did pay off and I now have twin boys through ivf and then had a little girl naturally. Try to stay positive, not easy I remember but hopefully you will get there too x x

Not to mention the emotional rollercoaster for both parents.

Hi all, I'm going to start the ICSI treatment with Dr. Singer in September. Did anyone have a positive experience with him? I'm looking for info about the treatment and obviously the doctor.

I already did an IUI at the Unispital in Zurich but I wasn't so happy (It was an ICSI at the beginning, but it turns out I have low ovarian reserve so I had only one good egg, but they didn't told us that with one egg they did only IUI. I started in January and ended in May because they have a lot of patients, different doctors will see you each time you go, etc.).

Where did you have your treatment when you got your twin boys)? Was it Switzerland?

Hello,

I have tried to find a forum for English speaking people LIVING in Switzerland going through or planning to go through ivf...I wasn't able to find anything really (just little posts in various places) except here at the englishforum. Unless I missed it? If so please advise

While it is interesting to read IVF forums in other countries, it would be better to have a 'local' resource for those going through IVF here in CH. So we know what to expect, what issues can arise, costs, share knowledge and experiences etc. It seems it can differ greatly from one end of the country to the other.

As some of the posts I have read through on EF are quite old , it would be really helpful to get some recent updates on clinic experiences in & out of Switzerland, Dr's in CH, costs etc.

Can anyone in Northern Switzerland provide some info? In Zurich - recommended dr's, I've just read a thread on EF about Bregenz - does anyone have any personal experience? Anyone gone/going to Spain, Belgium etc?

Would help us to make our decisions going forward.

Thanks

Hi sunshinefamily,

same issue here, we are expat living in Zurich area and desperately looking for information but can only find old post googling around.

we already went through two IVF cycles with no good results. first one made in Switzerland and the second in Spain , they both varies in term of esperience, pros and cons but not fully satisfied.

Many questions came to our minds, we don't know if there are better technologies/treatments abroad and better keep trying in in CH. This time we think to try the ICSI (or IUI) but still trying to look for a dedicated and passionate doctor who main target is not to steal money.

Do you have any reference in US we could look at ? any clinics to advice ?and do you think are they better in applying latest researches/approaches ?

HI,

I don't know of anyone that has IVF in the US. Maybe there are others on this forum that might.

To be honest in most cases I have been told - by various Dr's & not all related to IVF - that you should expect to have around 3 attempts before being successful. But it all depends on the reasons why you cannot conceive - which can be very different in each case.

From various sources - Spain seem to be 'up there' in terms of success. Not sure which clinic you went to in Spain, but I can give you details of the one I went to in Barcelona if you PM.

We also had a colleague that recommended a clinic in Belgium and they had THREE successful IVF's!! But when we contacted the clinic they were very busy. So be prepared to have to wait (I understand every month is important depending on age/circumstance) - one clinic told me in December they are only taking people for February!!

I have heard very good reports about serum in Athens - personal care so on. However, there is also a 'waiting list' (I guess they can only take on so many cases).

Having been through a few rounds now, and had case file reviewed for another clinic, I think you have to be VERY strong and HONEST with yourself and your situation. As I am having to be. If your 'case' doesn't look good & depending on results from previous tries then a decent clinic will not take you on as they know what the chances are & don't want to get your hopes up (take your money). But it doens;t mean it is NOT possible.

Depending on what your research many of the additional services have been found not to increase chances at all

.... http://www.bbc.com/news/health-38094618 - just google and for a few...

Also some clinics don't charge extra for e.g. IUI but do it as standard - so really do your homework.

Not to mention the smudging of statistics of clinics 'successes'...not everywhere is measuring the same thing...an IVF pregnancy may not result in a LIVE birth...

BASICALLY, it IS a huge money making business. I should have prepared my self more for the 'probably not' option, but I didn't. I was ready to start next round in February & my otherhlaf said no more. Now trying to deal with the possibility that it won't happen for us now.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone - quite the opposite, be positively optimistic - just go in prepared & be realistic.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Hi a bit late to this thread - but there is the Kinderwunch in Baden -

Dr. Nordin - we were successful on the first cycle. She was very supportive through the process and the Center was 100% professional. We are obviously very satisfied. So She is another one others can consider.
