While that could be seen as an obstacle, perhaps it is better viewed as a "simple challenge"...

It will help limit temptation to carry much back with you and provide a good walk out and back, right? Thinking of it that way, I'm curious what that walk would be like, perhaps something to do (walk it that is) when the weather warms up a bit again... like in May or June.

I wouldn't do it- it's not a nice area to go for a walk, at all. Believe on this one.

I just saw that this opened here outside of Mulhouse and sure enough someone is talking about this here.

(the website indicates extra times underneath these, not sure what they mean, could be these times I just gave are last serving time and these are the closing times; or they could be vacation times?! 23:00 mon-thu; 00:00 fri-sun)

Now, how to get there without a vehicule?

Totally possible!

Take the Tramway line 1 at the train station, change at Porte Jeune(it's a big place with general tram line changes)

Take Tramway line 2 drection Coteaux.

Get off at Nations(that will be at least 12 minutes from Porte Jeune), either walk to the KFC (which will take 15+ minutes) or

Take Bus 52 direction Trivier-Fernandez, get off at Source and you're right there!

My guess is from the train station to the kfc by public transportation will be at least 20-25 minutes if there's minimal waiting time between tram and bus changes.

Going to this area by public transportation is a hassle for people living downtown(I used to work around that area ... what a headache taking the tram or biking as I did not want to drive).
