Kids Birthday Cake Ideas

Hi there,

I am running out of new ideas for cakes for my boys--

I am pretty creative, and not too cack-handed with a bit of icing, but looking for new ideas (tried and tested always better) (sorry had to find a way to add that smilie in )

Done Fire Engine, Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks, Smartie Covered Chocolate, Pirate Ship.

Has anyone got any ideas for the 3 birthdays that are coming up this spring!?!? 1 yr old, 4 yr and 6 yrs.

Thanks,

Naomi

I have always used the Australian Womens Weekly Birthday Cake book for my 4 children.

They get to pick what cake they want and I attempt to make it! It has great cakes but also gives you wonderful ideas to adapt as well.

Amazon does sell the cook book.

This is what I have done for my son's birthdays in the past (I mainly do cupcakes since they disappear faster than cake )

Monkey cupcakes for my son's 2nd birthday (Jungle theme)

Pirate cup cakes for 4th birthday

hi naomi

great mum! Have you tried Thomas the Tank Engine? my son turned 5 in 2009 and just loved it. Last year I made him a Lightning mcqueen and it was a hit too. Let me post the photo of the tank engine.

Woah! I am over the top impressed of your skills girls! I never tried and I wouldn't know where to begin!

Please more pictures!!!!!

My mom sent me over from the states a wonderful cupcake book called "What's new , Cupcake?" . It has great ideas, but one needs to hit a good sweetie shop to make most of the cupcake toppers.

What about a hamburger cake?

Hi!

The site parenting.com has an impressive list of ideas. You could check then out at http://www.parenting.com/gallery/31-...y-cake-designs .

Cheers!

I followed this "howdini" video to make a dinosaur cake for a 4 year old's birthday last summer.

It's really really easy and he loved it (we used mini toblerones for the spines and brown M&Ms for the spots)

Another nice thing to do would be get a bakery to print a photo of your kids onto icing and then you can put it on the cake. I love seeing those birthday cakes with a personalised photo. Too bad my mom always gets me an apple tart from our street -.-

winnie the pooh is pretty easy to make you can just buy colored marzipan or fondant and pretty much cut out the pieces. i made this with a combination of fondant and marzipan because i dont really love the flavor of marzipan but you can definitely do all marzipan since they sell it already colored. a circus cake is also pretty easy , its basically a mix a wonderfull colors in very simple shape cutouts.

i hope this helps with ideas

Wow, there's quite some talent out there ladies

Pooh bear is looking like a great option for the 1st year birthday.... thanks.

I'm just digging out some links for the cakes I've done, in case it helps you in return.... happy to write down the "how"

Ship including real life pirate:

Naughty chick hicks

hmm, human error there. Will try again in a moment with the photos

Elmo Cake or Cupcakes, normal cake base, and colored frostings.. so nice

Cookie monster is nice too - yet not sure where you can get colored chocolate or coco shavings here.

They are nice ! where did you find the colored fondant?

Coloured fondant was from back-art .

Alternatively, my mother from the UK

thanks ! prices are not to bad.. paid more back in ireland for them

I bought some stuff ( decorations ) from http://www.culpitt.com/ - expensive but well worth it.

* note that i am not affiliated with the company above *

One thing not to do..........

Sons birthday tomorrow and I decided to let the kids make cakes to take into his school. Think I will be clearing up for the next year The worktop is now a lovely shade of blue instead of white!

They had fun though, suppose thats the main thing

You need a glass of wine and some "inner calm" ... ommmmmm.

Both help me in those situations.

But I give you two thumbs up for letting them.
