Lewis hamilton

Yes of course there are, but the OP unwittingly initiated open season by asking specifically about Mr. Hamilton.

Sorry Lewis!

To be honest, I didn't really know who Lewis Hamilton was until about halfway down the second page of this thread, apart from the fact that he was a racing driver, and therefore worthy of mockery and abuse.

I now understand that he is a handsome young gentleman who probably deserves better from his fellow English expatriates in Switzerland.

But, alas, he still gets paid too much money to drive a car around in circles, and still cannot open his champagne without spilling it, so the mockery, at least from me, will continue.

He's more than welcome to return the favour, of course. Can anyone get him to join the EF? He'd love it here, I reckon!

good grief indeed, leave the poor guy alone....

to be honest if i earned what he does i would try to avoid paying more tax too!

Whether he deserves it or not Dougal, Hamilton is unlikely to get better from many of his fellow Brits. Mr. H. kicked his first year of F1 racing as runner up in the world championship with the most wins of a driver in his debut season. In his second season he became not only world champion, but the youngest world champion in F1 history. This will not endear him to his English compatriots. Whereas Americans love a winner (even better if he's handsome), we Brits love an underdog. Give us a rank outsider any day and we'll back back 'em all the way. Says a lot about the British psyche.

Just to set the record straight I understand that Formula 1 driving requires peak physical condition and is hard work.

Probably a large influence on F1 drivers in their choice to live in Switzerland is that their gaffer Bernie Ecclestone lives in Gstaad. More on Mr. Ecclestone here and here .

Yeah, but even so. How hard can it be to shove the bottle between your knees, grip the cork and turn the bottle round a couple of times?

I mean, I can even do it on my second and third bottles. Have you seen his messy attempts? Don't they teach gentlemanly behaviour at 'Racing Car School'?

I bet Sterling Moss could manage it.

Now there was a gentleman.

These new boys would have Graham Hill turning in his Cessna, he drank his bubbly, not waste it on the rif raf

Is there a more arrogant, dislike able little $hit in sport?

I really dislike this guy now. When he first broke through he seemed like a normal decent young boy that had been brought up with good values.

Just goes to show what a bit of fame can do to people.

Schumacher quote

Since first winning his champioship he has excelled in how to run into other drivers and failed to win another championship, meanwhile some unknown german guy has won 4 world championships and is far less arrogant

You think?

Talented he is, but humble he is not.

Vettel is just as bad.

Excellent drive by Lewis to secure pole position in the Australian GP.

That's an odd one. Hamilton is quite religious and that strikes me that it's intended to be a (sort of) positive "God works in mysterious ways" thing, especially coupled with the comment about his character.

Agree, however not the best comment to making public?

Reeks of arrogance.

No. It doesn't.

Slightly misguided comment, I agree, but in wht way would you describe it as arrogant? I can't see it myself.

Anyway, it's clear from your previous post that you dislike him for some reason, whereas the blatantly unsportsmanlike German who's had more success you seem to forgive his arrogance, which is much more frequently aired in public.

AAAArgh, you *#@". I haven't watched the qualifying yet, and then you post that without a spoiler alert.

To be fair, I wouldn't be opening an F1 thread in your position.

Oh, and you'd be better just looking at the results. The session was dull.

Sorry Ace.

Oh not at all, Schumacher is probably the most arrogant, disliked sportsman I know, and from reports he was certainly not liked amongst his fellow sportsman. For the record I think Vettel is also heading that way, particularly with him falling out with Webber who seems to be one of the nice guys in the sport.

I think the arrogance in Hamilton's comment comes from him thinking he can say what he wants when he wants regardless of the situation.

It seemed a relatively typical answer from an F1 driver asked for a sound bite. For sure, they all talk in clichés.
