This will be in the Vaud area, so unless they deliver cheaply, other more far areas such as Zurich, won't really be helpful.
We move in about two weeks. One of the rooms that we will have is huge - for me any way, at 45sq meters - and I want to divide it into two areas, mainly with a large couch.
I've looked and not come across what I'm looking for yet (IKEA isn't even close with theirs). I want it to be solid, and large, new or used, depends on the condition and price.
I am also looking for a large preferably round or oval table for eating at. If round, I'm hoping for at least 180 cm (bigger is better), to fit many comfortably. Most places seem to have much smaller tables, less than 150 cm. I prefer wood.
If you have any suggestions, on line or otherwise, I am very interested - the big part is, a reasonable delivery to the Nyon area.
We recently bought a DePadova Square 16 sofa in leather. It's big and very deep and the cushions are filled with down, so when you sit in it, it envelopes you. It's so comfortable.
We bought it from Hugo Peters in Zurich, but I'm sure there must be stockists closer to you.
If you are buying at the Natuzzi end of the market, delivery charges aren’t really going to be a concern!
If that is what you’re looking at, we bought ours from XXXLutz in Germany 11 years ago when the Euro was around 1.50 when we ordered and 1.35 when it was delivered and still worked out half price compared to buying in Switzerland. I’ve no idea if Swiss prices have been adjusted in the meantime, but the potential to save several thousand CHF means it would be worth checking.
We visited the Poltrone showroom in Bolzano a few years ago...their sofas were very nice; I think nicer quality than Natuzzi. It's probably where we're going to buy our sofa when the upstairs is done.
If you buy in France, make sure you ask for 'détaxe' for export. You will have to take forms to be stamped at Swiss border, but will pay Swiss VAT not French- much cheaper.
We ended up buying a dining table second hand from a broki. I don‘t know anything about Brokis where you are (this one was in Thun), but they had a lot of gently used nice stuff. We paid about 1/3 of the price of a new table. Our table is a very simple walnut slab on metal legs.
Come to think of it, they must be called something other than a broki in the Romandie. I‘m sure someone will be around to help us out with the correct name.
If you are up for a trip to the Other Side (Benken SG) - or for anyone else interested in wooden furniture - one of my favorite places is the Holzwurmsanitorium. These good folks find, refinish, and sell vintage wooden furniture. You can buy as is, or have them refinish the piece. I see on their website that they have several larger tables - ca 100 x 200+, the kind you'd find in a farmhouse a few hundred years ago. Most are rectangular rather than round or oval, though.
(I shouldn't have peeked. There is a lovely cherry and an equally lovely walnut table. D*amn, I need a bigger house. )
I'll also second the suggestion of finding a local furniture maker for your table.
When we first moved in, I couldn't find anything at typical furniture stores here - I guess I just don't like the current Swiss style. Instead, I found a fantastic furniture maker, truly a master craftsman, who made several pieces for me.
Surprisingly, custom made was not really more expensive than mid to higher end mass produced stuff. But the quality is an order of magnitude better!
The gentleman who made our furniture is unfortunately retired now. While it is harder to find a furniture maker than it used to be there are still folks out there making beautiful things, to your specifications.
Milola www.Milola.ch do lots of customisable solid wood tables and couches in fabric/leather/size of choice. Plus the owner, Charlotte is very helpful and English speaking if that is a factor.
They are online or have a small showroom near vevey but if what you want is something you can’t find in the shops I recommend them.
MattyRedSox, you might want to PM EF member 'TheSpouse', who is an expert in vintage furniture and knows the vintage furniture scene in the Romandie. She is no longer in Switzerland (she now has a vineyard in France, lucky lady!) but she pops back in to EF now and again.
This. My husband moved here ahead of me end of June 2007, I came in August. He bought a leather couch from Möbel Märki (nearest to OP is Bern). It’s been awesome, and has lasted well. Up until last year(when she got too old) my dog jumped up on it daily,, jumped over it occasionally and never left a mark. But I don’t think we got the couch till October and our beds we bought from Pfister. Those took till November. We slept on an aerobed for almost 6 months.
As i recall, I would avoid Pfister....we had some issues with their installation of a bookshelf and vitrine. Comedy of errors and it was 14 years ago. So maybe they’ve improved.
But we also bought the ubiquitous pax wardrobe about 10 years ago from IKEA and that installation was quite the ordeal.
