I am 32 years old and live in Zurich, I am somewhat local but currently trying to expand my small social circle. I tried to meet new people at work but that is impossible due to lack of shared interests and mentalities so I joined some language classes but that was also another fail. Lately I also joined a gym but that was even worse. No one speaks to each other there either:-) Maybe this here will prove more fruitful. It would be great to be able to hang out with a group of people once in a while rather than hanging out with one friend I still have from school and being dependant on her availability. Recently I tried glocals but the people there seemed quite superficial and after meeting up once no one seemed too bothered to contact each other anymore...despite having a good time together.
I like concerts, bars, travelling, hiking, skiing and trying out new things in general. Nothing too crazy, just trying to have a good time and find something else to do apart from go to work and go home and watch TV.
If anyone is interested in catching up please drop me a line.
The Mousetrap "pub" in the Viadukt Markthalle (it's a cheese shop with a bar that sells great beers, though it's arguably a bar that sells great (not grated) cheese) is not bad for meeting a few English speaking people from all walks of life and for drinking good beer (did I mention there's cheese). Thursday evenings, and Saturday afternoons are your best bet.
Mike (the owner/barman/Käsermeister) is great at introducing strangers to one another if they're looking lost and lonely (and you've introduced yourself to him).
There's a few threads if you search EF for Mousetrap.
i've noticed something about posts like these that i find mildly amusing.
the orignal post clearly states that the person is searching for friendship if people are interested. the following replies all be it nice and with good intentions always involve directing the person to where they might find friendship. Almost nobody pops up like "hey im always up for making new friends wanna hang sometime".
but yeah ever heading to aarau and fancy a bear let me know.
Mmmm, yeah, but. I'm not the type to be looking for new friends, so I can either give advice about other places, or I can just ignore. I think a helpful pointer is better than nowt.
Incidentally, I think Bern is a better option for bears*
hahaha omg thats a bad typo sorry lol. excuse my spelling mistakes im scouse so english is like a second language to me lol.
i am totally not knocking the fact you are all nice and give good tips by the way. i just think it's a shame that you barely ever see anyone like. " awwww bless i will be your friend"
i can also totally understand why its hard to expand friend circles these days as people don't talk anymore. we all walk around noses in phones and ignoring the world.
switzerland is a small country lol people live in basel bern zurich and all are only around an hour from olten/aarau theres nothing stopping one big meet up for english speakers
