I was told by my landlord that i need to get name plates for the post box and call box at my apartment. Does anyone know where i should go to have this done in Basel? They are different sizes so i won't have 2 of the same made.
Why go for the nameplate??? Just take a piece of paper and a marker pen and boom! you are a resident of the building. Most people go that way unless you are rolling in dough or you're all hoity toity about 'quality of life'!
For some buildings it is compulsory to have the metal name plates. If you don't get them yourself you can often expect the landlord to arrange them for you and charge you for the cost plus extra for the service .
Also, I wouldn't say most people go for a bit of paper. I'm not "rolling in it" but I prefer to have metal ones so my post actually always makes it to me and I don't have to keep replacing a scraggy piece of paper that the light has faded or the rain has wrecked.
Yein. Some landlords insist that you do, others don't care. Whether it can be legally enforced? Probably not, but then you don't want to get on the wrong side of the landlord and/or house warden.
Depends on the your canton rules about renting which superseed what is written in your tenancy agreement and inside the "Building regulations" provided by your "gérance" (agency).
In Vaud, if the gérance requests so, it's mandatory to comply, and the same "style" must be respected. But, what people usually don't know, is that the Canton law superseeds this one and they specify that you are allowed to make it done by any professional of your choice.
Which is of course, much cheaper. I bet you can even do it online remotely, and get it posted for a few CHFS.
PS: As you have seen it's not same canton as yours so you should start reading your documents to know if you "HAVE TO" or not.
PS2: In Vaud, I got troubles for daring to put the first name in paper, even after buying the gérance plates, so make sure you are complying
The landlord/building manager usually requires all letterbox (and bell, and door) nameplates to be uniform, to maintain the aesthetics of the block. So yes, you will probably need to supply engraved plates.
Are the nameplates silver metal (aluminium) or black on white (or white on black)? If the latter, you may be able to mimic the style and print on white (or black) paper at home. I know of someone who got away with this for several years.
