Mom Jeans & Muffin Tops

I agree darker is nicer. I have one pair of relatively light jeans (that I'm currently wearing actually) and they are much less flattering that dark washes. Fortunately, it's hard right now to find light washes.

Why no black?

Thank you Longbyt.. and thank you for all the other times you have helped me on technicalities. There have been a few

Thank you Si for the male input - I see that the bosses are on their lunch break so you can be back on the forum

I went to school in the 80's which surprise, surprise, was just after the 70's.. It was drummed into me from peers, that flairs are definitely OUT. I still hear their voices when I put on, even boot cut jeans.

Tonite, when I get a moment, i will hunt thru Pegs site.

Yep.

But what I meant colour-wise was this:

darker blue, uni-coloured jeans always look like mom jeans - no matter the cut.

Now stone washed/slightly lighter blue is much, much nicer.

Unfair comparison I know.. but even with the same cut, figure it makes a world of difference.

Poor Jessica, that pair of jeans were just atrocious

Not at all sure who she is, but those jeans look like something I wore to grade school in the 70s.

With that belt it looks like she's going to move a piano .

Actually, the problem with those jeans is really not the color but rather the pocket. Pockets that "bulge" open like that are not flattering for anyone... it draws the eye to the widest / fleshiest part of the hip.

The back pocket is nice, it shows of the curve of the bum but the front, her fashion consultant really should have had those front pockets stitched closed.

The lines at the top of the thigh also do the horizontal stripe effect and make them look bigger. The reason jeans usually look so nice is the excellent seams down the sides. Once you mess with that, the jeans just look awful.

I really like Diesel jeans. They offer a lot of different cuts and washes to flatter most figures. My new favourite cut is the 'Vixy' which sits at the top of the hip bone, relaxed fit and low pockets to make your bum look tiny. Diesel are pricey but you can get them on sale quite often, and they last forever! 'ONLY' jeans are also quite nice and affordable (available at Vero Moda).

My absolute favourites for a flattering fit are True Religion brand jeans but they are OMG expensive!!!

Yep, you're right... her fashion consultant simply should have ripped the front pockets off to begin with.

I really love my Levi's 505 jeans, they are exactly the "mom jeans" style ya'll are talking about but they're warmer than my stretch boot-cut ones and feel more secure than my low-cut flares (which I got in Miami for "casual" clubbing).

They're certainly not the most fashionable thing anymore but I love to wear them with my fall-weight heavy polo shirts and such. (Hey, what can I say... junior high AND high school - read, the entirety of my teenage years - in the 80s will do that )

(bolding / italics mine for emphasis)

Sorry Pinki, I just "have" to pick this out...

Visiting the Diesel website, the choices in jeans offer styles in Regular, Slim or Super Slim... I'm thinking that folks who are trying to avoid "muffin top" are not going to fare so well with the selection form Diesel.

Unless, of course, I missed something on their website... ?

The low hipsters dig into my hip bones or leave vunerable spaces. I have a big butt, so I like apple bottom or JLo jeans, they are so comfortable. Winter is coming so they have to be mixed with a classy low heel leather boots and a cuddly very long scarf.

Just no camel-toes- pleeeease!

I was not clear, I meant doesn't have to be black... Dark blue is very good!

I had to write fast my little monkey was trying to grab the computer!

I find the Regular quite flattering; I am petite (fancy talk for 'short') curvy with short legs and these are nicely cut so there are no gaps at the back when I sit down (read: butt cleavage), but are flattering to my shorter legs.

The slim actually fit me quite well (not as low cut as most skinny jeans), but I do have to wear a size or two up otherwise it looks like my legs are trying to escape a medieval torture ritual.

I still buy my jeans in the US. Eileen Fisher - with a little stretch to them, and Land's End for basic, regular old jeans sometimes with stretch. Both fit a range of sizes

I have a pair of black jeans which I really like, my others are fairly dark blue, denim. That weird pair with the pockets on the singer... were those actually denim? They looked like some other funky material.

The things I really dislike are acid wash, or jeans with holes in them or jeans with sparkly things on them. I really like plain stuff, I guess.

The thing is, most of us are going to have imperfections. Lumps and bumps. I really think we need to be more tolerant of this...

What are mom jeans? High waist, big pockets?

Elastic waistband screams mom jeans to me. Also HUGE hips that are really relaxed fit.

By my definition they are usually spattered with lunch, smeared with a bit of ice cream, muddy footprints from where the toddler-shoes dangle when being carried around, and the pockets are full of snotty tissues, treasured objects such as conkers, stones, sweetie wrappers an interesting looking leaf and a snail's shell.

Never mind the cut of them...

Thank you, I just realized that I wear mom jeans.

I love the jeans, except for the apple
