I can't get through to the call centre; they have a message saying due to major problem between Regensdorf & Neuhausen there are long waits to reach a call agent.
All very tedious; should not be possible to have such long term faults

Ran some diagnostics & they both point to the supplier unless anyone knows better?
DNS server is not responding Test internet surfing
Test xDSL Synchronization Pass
ATM OAM Segment Ping Pass
ATM OAM end to end Ping Pass
Test PPP Server connection Fail
Diagnostics completes Thanks for any help.
Given that the problem has existed so long I'm beginning to think the problem exists at your end. With my problems I never actually was disconnected from the net.
So things to check would be:-
Restart your router - you've probably done this several times already
Check the cables from your router to the telephone point - again you've probably already done this.
If you're using DSL then you might want to consider replacing the micro filter - the bit that you plug into the telephone line and then plug your router into. It's not unknown for these to fail. Although the segment ping pass and the end to end ping pass would indicate a data link is established. Nevertheless it's worth a try as data can be passed without the micro filter working.
In truth I have no definite answers for you.
I am also tending to think the problem is at my end.
I replaced the microfilter, no luck; it was a bit of a challenge as the filter was installed some 10 years ago & is now living behind a 1.8M high bookcase
Anyway last time I had a microfilter problem it showed up when people used the phone. BTW the phone works fine which also points to a problem at my end?
I replaced my modem router some months ago so I tried plugging the old one in; same problem; BTW the micro filter I used as a replacement was a new one that came with this new router.
I have 12 devices on my home network & 9 are Internet capable. They can all talk to each other now but none of them see the Internet now.
The problem showed up when I was in the middle of posting something so it is not like I changed anything....
Me and my neighbour have exactly the same problem since last Thursday evening. PPP is not answering. We had both several calls with Sunrise. They tell us always the same stories: "Problem on your side, try to reset the router and start over again, we can send you a new modem for 79.-" and so on. They told us therse are no problems at all, nobody else has complaint..... bla bla bla.
At the moment, I do not know what to do. My neighbour has ordered a new sunrise modem and we have to wait for it to try again.......
very very dissatisfying. As soon as it run again I will change the provider for sure.

maybe Sunrise is having a DNS problem.
try using Google's DNS service:
Even their technical person could not find the issue. After all (and after the numerous lies from Customer services), I resigned and cancelled the contract.
And because it was due to technical fault (theirs), I had no fine or anything.
Since them I got Cable and....I've never been happier!
In fact it's perfect service, perfect device, perfect connection, etc...
It's really black/white, night/day!
Its extremely pleasing not to have to listen their cr@p music "all you need is sunriiiise...." and to have a working stable connection.
The problem was solved with a new sunrise modem. Dont ask me why. Seems that they have replaced a server, and older modems are not longer supported on it??
But however, I will change provider anyway.

So probably nobody else has an adsl problem in our region
I just changed my subscription to "Sunrise internet everywhere start" which is 4CHF per month cheaper than my current subscription & includes a free modem & wireless router.
Watch this space!!
Currently sitting in my wife's shop which has Cablecom internet
My old sub has unlimited calls which suits me better than the new ones.
Nothing is simple is it.
I looked at the Fritz box thingy; you have to connect your telephones direct to this box.
This means someone like me who has multiple phones in different rooms is stuffed! Unless I run long cables about the place which is not the Swiss way!
New sunrise modem arrives Sept 12th.
I keep meeting new people with the same problem.
It is strange; it used to be if sunrise lost ADSL for some hours it woud be reported in the newspapers - now it is weeks & nobody comments. What conclusion do we draw from this?
BTW, I was in the local library yesterday evening & the librarion told me about some people who were refusing to buy a new sunrise modem & were holding out for a free one.
My sunrise internet has been a bit up and down all week, and finally this morning the router couldn't even detect a DSL signal, let alone log in.
After some unsuccessful fiddling I decided to put in another router, one that I found in amongst a load of other stuff outside a house with a "gratis" sign on it (I always grab this stuff as you never know when you'll need it), and low and behold everything connected correctly once I'd set the router back to factory settings and configured the VPI/VCI and PPPoE parameters correctly.
OK, I thought, I'll try the old router again. This time it could detect the DSL signal and log in, but it would drop after about 2-3 minutes, and then fail to reconnect.
Putting the new router back in was fine. Then I noticed that downstream connection was about 1Mb faster that it previously was. It would seem to me that Sunrise are gradually moving all their subscribers to a new slightly faster circuit, which seems to be causing problems with older routers (mine was 10 years old), the new router is a relative youngster at only 6 years old.
Fingers crossed, this seems to have resolved the problem, but it has prompted me to investigate the fibre access point that was installed in my flat by the EWZ some months ago.
No, problem not fixed yet.
A new sunrise modem arrived last Friday but sunrise will not activate it until Sept 12th.
I tried a couple of modem/routers; one 3 months old & the other about 3/4 years old. Symptom is always the same; ADSL modem synchronises but no PPP connection.
About "Sunrise are gradually moving all their subscribers to a new slightly faster circuit"
Seems likely; might be linked to the TV services going HD & possibly migrating the current ADSL-lines to VDSL2 although as ADSL is a point to point service it should be technicaly simple to continue to support legacy modems.
